Dear Neighbor:
The leaves are falling and autumn is in full swing. In this newsletter, you will find upcoming events happening in our community, seminars for local businesses and senior citizens, and details on the fall food drive and volunteer event I am hosting in anticipation of Thanksgiving.
At the end of the month, the General Assembly will reconvene for the fall veto session. Crucial issues will be considered, including the governor's veto of the ComEd smart grid legislation, human services, pension reform, and the state budget. As always, I continue to solicit your ideas and advice as we return to Springfield. Many of you have taken my constituent survey over the past few months. If you have not already, you can share your thoughts with me before the fall veto session by clicking here.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can ever be of assistance to you.
Very truly yours,
Sara Feigenholtz
State Representative

Senior Citizen Homeowner Exemption |
|
There are thousands of seniors in Cook County who have not applied for their senior citizen exemption on their fall tax bill. In the past, seniors did not have to reapply for the exemption every year but a new state law now requires a senior to reapply for the exemption annually.
Seniors who did not apply will receive a $0 credit for the Homeowner and Senior Citizen Exemption.
Seniors who failed to apply have two options:
1) Pay the incorrect bill and apply for a "Certificate of Error." Homeowners will receive a refund within 100 days.
2) File your exemption application at the Cook County Assessor's office at 118 N. Clark Street, 3rd Floor. Please bring your tax bill and a photo ID.
A third party can file the request on behalf of a homeowner but will need the following identification: copy of the incorrect tax bill, copy of a photo ID and completed Senior Citizen Homeowner Exemption Form.
To download the forms, click here.
Please contact Commissioner Bridget Gainer's office with any questions at 312.603.4210 or info@bridgetgainer.com.
