News about the Youth and Young Adult Ministry in the Diocese of Michigan
I pray that the start of the program year has been a good one for you. I know this time can be very busy and sometimes you may feel that things are getting away from you. I hope, if that happens to you, that you will take a few deep breaths and remember how loved by God you are. Remember that God is there in the midst of the busyness (and the stillness), and nothing in heaven or on earth can separate us from that love.

Also, if there is anything I can do to help you, please let me know. If you need someone to throw some ideas around with, please contact. If you want to talk about your day, your ministry, your hopes, your concerns, or anything, please contact me. If you would like me to pray with or for you, contact me. I am here for you!

All Youth Workers in the Diocese are invited to come to the Diocesan Center for a gathering and luncheon on Wed. Oct 1st from 10am - 1pm.

The purpose of this gathering is to bring Parish Youth Workers together to meet each other, foster bonds of common ministry, share resources and determine ways that we can support each other.

It doesn't matter whether you are a volunteer or paid, a lay person or clergy, if you are active in the Youth Ministry in your parish, I hope you will join us.

There is no cost, but I do need to have an RSVP to ensure we have enough for lunch. Please also let me know if you have any special dietary requests/ needs.

The address of the Diocesan Center is 4800 Woodward Ave., Detroit, MI 48201. There is parking available in the lot on the East side of the Cathedral.

We will also have an opportunity to hear from our La Iglesia Detroit Missioners regarding Latin@ Ministry in the Diocese and do some hands-on work to help refugees.

Diocesan Convention
For High School students
Oct 24-25 , 2014
Lansing Center, Lansing

Diocesan Convention is the ultimate organizational decision-making body of the Diocese of Michigan. It is comprised of clergy and lay members who come together for two days in late October to decide the Diocesan budget (based on recommendations from the Budget and Finance Committee of the Diocesan Council), elects members of the diocese's various administrative, executive and judicial bodies and votes on any resolutions.

Here is an opportunity for High School Students to be a part of the Convention. We are looking for High School students who would like to be pages for the Convention. In addition to helping staff the YAYA booth, they will also be available to hand out and collect information to the delegates on the Convention floor, help to lead morning worship and have numerous other chances to interact with the workings of Convention.

The Diocesan Convention for 2014 will be held at The Lansing Center in Lansing, MI

The cost for YAYA participation is $50. This price is just a fraction of the actual cost of the event, so a Registration Deadline of Oct. 15, 2013 will be strictly observed. This fee will cover your hotel room cost for one night, your banquet ticket on Friday, and breakfast & lunch on Saturday.

More information and a registration form can be found online at: http://www.edomi.org/diocesan-convention-youth/

Happening #15
For High School students
Nov 14-16, 2014
St. John's, Saginaw

Happening is a retreat weekend "for youth" "by youth" that allows young people (grades 9-12) to explore their relationships with Jesus, each other and the world. Concentrating closely on the person and teachings of Jesus Christ, Happening gives those who attend the desire to understand and serve the church. What's more, it provides a means to continue the Christian formation process, which is just begun in the three-day program. And it is lots of fun! Happening begins on a Friday at 6 p.m. and goes until 5:30 p.m. Sunday. Participants are expected to be at Happening the entire time. The Dioceses of Michigan and Eastern Michigan share in this ministry for young people.

More information can be found at our website: http://www.edomi.org/happening/
