ASA DNA Samples to be Tested Through GeneSeek

Recently the ASA has changed DNA testing companies and all samples must now be tested through GeneSeek. All samples must be submitted using GeneSeek cards which may be obtained by contacting the ASA office or filling out the online request form.

50K Update - offer expires June 1

Recently the ASA Board voted to to charge members just $25 per sample on the first 300 qualifying animals to be submitted to the ASA. Normally this test will cost members $90 in the future and the board voted to pay the difference for those breeders. There is no better time to participate! This offer will only last until June 1, 2014. 

 

Also, TH/PHA/DS testing can be done for $20 per test.

Shorthorn University Travel Update

The tour will be leaving from the Holiday Inn Express Indianapolis Airport - 6296 Cambridge Way, Plainfield, IN 46168. Visit hotel website.

 

A block of rooms have been reserved at the Holiday Inn Expresss, Indianapolis Airport for those arriving on Thursday, June 5th. Please mention the Shorthorn University block to receive a discounted price of $99/king or $105/2 queen beds. For those flying in please use the shuttle to the hotel or contact Jake or Montie to make arrangements for pick-up. Call for Junior National Volunteers!

WE Need YOU to RIDE FOR THE BRAND!

 

You read that right!

We are looking for talented, skilled, dedicated and enthusiastic individuals to Give Us a Hand; and Ride for the Brand!!!

 

Volunteers are needed throughout our time in Louisville to check-in projects and assist in the operation of our contest and events. Opportunities include:

  • Tuesday, June 24: Project Check-in and placement
  • Wednesday, June 25: Showmanship, Beef Cook Off, Team Sales
  • Thursday, June 26: Speech, Quizbowl, Team Fitting
If you want to be directly involved, give us a shout! We would enjoy working with you and making use of your skills! To volunteer, contact Larry W. Wilson by email at: lwwilson@illinois.edu.   

 

BE Sure to include your name, contact information and where you see your skills being best utilized. 

 

Volunteers need to be identified no later than June 1.
  

 
 
Performance and Carcass Data Due July 1

For data to be included in the Fall 2014 genetic evaluation, all performance data must be submitted to the ASA by July 1, 2014.

 

Spring 2014 Shorthorn EPDs are available at shorthorn.org to search the new data.

ASA Policy Reminder
Effective July 1, 2013:
All activities must be paid for at time of request. Work will not be released until payment is made in full. It is recommended that a credit card number is left on file at the ASA or send a credit card number with each processing order to quicken request. Online activities can use PayPal or leave a credit card number on file with ASA. A receipt will be emailed or mailed each time the card is charged. For any questions, please contact the office at 402-393-7200.

 


  
Fee Changes
Effective July 1, 2013:
  
Duplicate registration papers:
$10.00 each up to five duplicates requested. Any additional duplicates requested over five, are $7.00 each as long as requested at the same time.
  
Transfer fee for non-members:
The fee for a non-member animal transfer over 90 days at $122.00 is no longer in effect. Non-members will be charged $62.00 per transfer after 60 days or more. The 90 day transfer charge is still in effect for WHR and TOC members.

 

 

  
Registration Reminder!

Effective July 2008

Any animal as a result of A.I. or Embryo Transfer, if their Donor Dam or A.I. Sire was born after January 1, 2006 and does not have TH, PHA & DNA results on file with the ASA, the animal will NOT be eligible to be registered as a purebred in the American Shorthorn Association herd book. If you have a question as to whether or not your Donor Dam or A.I. Sire has their information on file, please check www.shorthorn.org or you can contact the ASA by phone, 402-393-7200 or email.

THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS RULE!
