TIR Director Search

Meet the Candidate

We are very pleased to inform you that the Religious School Director Search Committee is at a point in our search process where we have identified a candidate to bring to Jacksonville. Rabbi Cohen has known this candidate for many years, and states "I am very excited at the prospect to reunite and work alongside my friend and colleague, Naomi Chase. She is a dynamic and passionate educator with an extensive depth of knowledge and experience in all aspects of Jewish education and administration."

The Search Committee is looking forward to the opportunity for the "in-person" interactions that this portion of the interview process allows. We have set up opportunities on Sunday, April 27th at 9:30 am and following the 4:00 pm Yom Hashoah service for interested parties to meet our candidate. We strongly welcome feedback from these interactions, and we will solicit this feedback in the form of an e-mail survey.

TIR HAPPENINGS

6th Grade Work on Display at Yom Hashoah Commemoration

The TIR 6th grade Holocaust studies unit this year included a substantial emphasis on survivorship. In partnership with Naomi Mirensky of JFCS, TIR students provided artwork and creative writing for the 2nd edition of the Holocaust Haggadah: From Bondage to Freedom. TIR students heard Bob Fisher's story first hand and based on what they heard, wrote a moving song with music teacher Jennie Vick, Holocaust: Always Remember! They studied the Passover symbols of Pesah (shankbone), Matzah (unleavened bread) and Maror (bitter herbs) and the song Dayenu through the lens of the Holocaust and wrote reflections. After hearing a meditation on the journey from slavery to freedom, students painted watercolors. Onto ceramic tiles students painted connections of Passover and the Holocaust. View their work at the Yom Hashoah Commemoration at Temple on Sunday, April 27 at 4:00 p.m.

7th Grade Bake Sale

Sunday, 4/27 11:30-12:30 p.m.

As part of their unit of Kehilah Kedusha - Holy Community - the 7th grade learned about the need to create, develop and contribute to Jewish foundations/organizations in their community. During their studies, the 7th grade went through the steps needed to create a charity including deciding on a cause, developing a mission statement, creating a logo and creating a fundraiser. As a culmination to their unit "Living a Jewish Life: Building Foundations", the 7th grade will be hosting a Bake Sale on Sunday after TIR.  The monies from this fundraiser, in addition to the Tzedakah they collected this year, will be donated to the Friends of Israel Disabled Veterans. For additional information, please click here.
