Patient Testimonials
| Melanoma
"When I called your office about 7 weeks ago, having just learned that I was diagnosed with Melanoma on my ear, the person answering the phone felt the urgency in my voice and said that Dr. Sosin would stay late for a 5:00 appointment in a few days. Thank you so much for your awareness of my need. I found your name listed in Suzanne Somers book, Knockout.
Dr. Sosin recommended having the Melanoma surgically removed ASAP and also having several Vit C "drips" before surgery. I had three.
The surgery is over with good news.
Many thanks again to you and your office for your help!" -R.Q.
Natural Treatment of Allergies
"I have suffered with sinus infections and allergies for over 25 years. Dr. Sosin put me on Natural D-Hist and other supplements to improve my immune system. I am now the healthiest person in my office. Thank you Dr. Sosin for keeping up to date on the latest and greatest methods to help me get healthy!" -P.L.

Cancer Prevention Tips
| According to a new report from the President's Cancer Panel, environmental toxins play a significant and under-recognized role in cancer, causing "grievous harm" to untold numbers of people. Environmental Working Group's (EWG) research has found that children are born "pre-polluted" with nearly 300 industrial chemicals, pesticides and contaminants that have been found to cause cancer in lab studies or in people.
Four of every 10 Americans will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetimes, and two of every 10 will die from it. Beyond talking to your doctor about lifestyle changes that are known to make a difference -- stopping smoking, reducing drinking, losing weight, exercising and eating right -- there are things you can do to reduce your risk.
Here are some simple ways you can reduce your exposure to potentially cancer-causing chemicals (click here to download the PDF):
1. Filter your tap water. Common carcinogens in tap water include arsenic, chromium, and chemical byproducts that form when water is disinfected. A simple carbon tap-mounted filter or pitcher can help reduce the levels of some of these contaminants. If your water is polluted with arsenic or chromium, a reverse osmosis filter will help.
2. Seal outdoor wooden decks and play sets. Those built before 2005 are likely coated with an arsenic pesticide that can stick to hands and clothing. Click here to learn more.
3. Cut down on stain- and grease-proofing chemicals. "Fluorochemicals" related to Teflon and Scotchgard are used in stain repellants on carpets and couches and in greaseproof coatings for packaged and fast foods. To avoid them, avoid greasy packaged foods and say no to optional stain treatments in the home. Download EWG's Guide to PFCs.
4. Stay safe in the sun. More than one million cases of skin cancer are diagnosed in the United States each year. To protect your skin from the sun's cancer-causing ultraviolet (UV) radiation, seek shade, wear protective clothing and use a safe and effective sunscreen.
5. Cut down on fatty meat and high-fat dairy products. Long-lasting cancer-causing pollutants like dioxins and PCBs accumulate in the food chain and concentrate in animal fat.
6. Eat EWG's Clean 15. Many pesticides have been linked to cancer. Eating from EWG's Clean 15 list of the least contaminated fruits and vegetables will help cut your pesticide exposures. (And for EWG's Dirty Dozen, buy organic.) Learn more at EWG's Shopper's Guide to Pesticides.
7. Cut your exposures to BPA. Bisphenol A (BPA) is a synthetic estrogen found in some hard plastic water bottles, canned infant formula, and canned foods. Some of these chemicals cause cancer in lab studies. To avoid them, eat fewer canned foods, breast feed your baby or use powdered formula, and choose water bottles free of BPA. Get EWG's tips to avoid it.
8. Avoid carcinogens in cosmetics. Use EWG's Skin Deep cosmetic database to find products free of chemicals known or suspected to cause cancer. When you're shopping, don't buy products that list ingredients with "PEG" or "-eth" in their name.
9. Read the warnings. Some products list warnings of cancer risks -- read the label before you buy. Californians will see a "Proposition 65" warning label on products that contain chemicals the state has identified as cancer-causing.

A Safe and Effective Drug Detoxification Program
|
Helping people discontinue the use of addictive drugs and medications has been an important goal here at the Institute for Progressive Medicine. A safe, non-drug approach to detoxification and rehabilitation is a vastly under-utilized and necessary service. Doctors and staff have been helping patients reduce or eliminate the need for pharmaceutical medications here in our facility for over 10 years. In addition, Dr. Sosin has many years of experience treating pharmaceutical and street drug addiction and handling the detoxification process in both hospital and out-patient detoxification centers. Patients regularly come to see us on medications they were prescribed for pain or another valid medical complaint such as back pain or fibromyalgia, but to which they are now addicted and no longer wish to take. Some examples are benzodiazapines (tranquilizers) such as Valium, Xanax, or Ativan, sleeping medications such Lunesta or Ambien and narcotic pain killers such as Suboxone, Morphine, or Oxycontin. Other patients were prescribed one or more pharmaceutical medications for depression or anxiety, but now experience unpleasant side effect and cannot come off of the drugs on their own. Unfortunately, it is difficult and can be dangerous to discontinue or change medications without direct medical supervision, and patients may not be able to go through the process on their own. The answer for many is a medically supervised taper-down program along with nutritional IV therapy and a calming and supportive environment. Our doctors partner with a unique facility called Pr Detox, providing out-patient detoxification and live-in services in Laguna Beach.
Pr Detox is a nationally acclaimed drug detox program that is dedicated to a single result: A person free from the mind-altering and life-damaging effects of addiction and chemical dependency. A medically assisted detox program makes a rapid and significant difference in the quality of people's lives by creating a perfect synergy of medical expertise with a physical and emotional supportive program that recognizes and deals with the often emotionally and physically taxing process of detoxification form addictive drugs. Pr Detox Services are progressive, effective and holistic whenever possible. The program stresses effective one-on-one care for each individual. Pr Detox methods are fast and gentle, in an upscale environment that stresses safety and emotional support. Its facility is non-institutional in appearance and procedures.
Pr Detox is one of the few programs that offers a supervised sauna therapy program that literally expels the stored-up drugs from the body, helping the person to regenerate cellular integrity. This is an essential and vital part to breaking biophysical dependency and creating a new level of health and vitality once the patient has come completely off medications and drug. Sauna at Pr Detox follows a precise regimen designed to deliver the maximum benefit to the patient in a comfortable and confront-able setting. No other program takes a person from being a victim and a slave of substance abuse, to a bright and able person who looks to the future with hope.
If you know of a friend, family member of acquaintance who needs help discontinuing the use of addictive pharmaceuticals and/or illicit drugs, please contact Chris or Henry at Pr Detox today or log on to www.purdetox.com for more information on how you can get help.
