Do you have any pet peeves? We all do. Let me give you an example of one of mine.
Many times, when I enter or exit a building, someone will open the door for me, which is really nice. When that happens, I always say, "Thank you." However, on occasion, before I even have the chance to say thank you, the person will say in a not-so-nice way, “And you’re welcome.” Or better yet, I said thank you, but they didn’t hear me and will still say in a not-so-nice way, “And you’re welcome.” That kind of bothers me.
I spoke with a friend, and she asked if I even needed to say thank you. A person should be opening the door without expecting to get a thank you, right?
Hmm. That got me thinking.
When I speak to business owners, I hear complaints about ungrateful employees. For example, "I gave my employees xyz, and I got one thank you." My response is, didn’t you give those employees xyz as a thank you to them? Do you even know if what was given to them was something they even wanted or needed?
I’m not saying that we don't thank people. But I am encouraging all of us to recognize that we’re doing it for our employees, not for ourselves.
Let us know what you think. Thank you. 😉
