BAPTISM

Are you interested in being baptized? If so, we'd love to connect with you! Fill out this form or sign up at the info desks in the Sanctuary to help us in our planning. A mandatory class will be held on May 27 at 6pm led by Pastor Hank. We will celebrate baptisms on Sunday, June 1 (location and times TBD).

At HBIC, we believe baptism is a celebration of your decision to follow Jesus as your Lord and Savior. As your church family, we would like to stand with you as you publicly declare you have made the decision to surrender your life to the Lord! If you have questions about baptism at HBIC or in general, check out this BIC resource and feel free to email Pastor Hank or connect with any of the pastors on staff.

THANK YOU!

Pastor Brie along with the youth mission team want to send a huge thank you to everyone for your wonderful support!! This year’s spaghetti dinner and auction raised over $17,000! Thank you again for the wonderful items/services donated, thank you to everyone who helped make the event happen and thank you for the wonderful generosity at the auction! What a fun evening! (We'll plan to send an update on the funds raised with a more precise number in next week's Journeying Together.)

Brie thanked a handful of individuals from the stage and she wanted to add a big ‘thank you’ to Karen Deyhle for organizing and managing much of the silent auction!

WHOOPS - 2 ITEMS MISSED THE AUCTION!

Two items missed the auction. Brie is offering a “blind bid” for these two items. We have a BOB Jogger stroller up for bid (see photo). We also have a set of 10 veggie seedlings from Kim Mumper. Kim has a variety of seedlings available from which the winner can choose their 10 from including heirloom, unusual and standard varieties. The seedlings are grown in certified organic seed starting medium. If you're interested in either item, please email Brie the amount you would like to offer. Brie will "close the bidding" Monday night and reach out to the winners who offered the highest amount for each item on Tuesday.

SUPPORTING REFUGEES

As a church family, we have already begun seeking ways to practically support refugees in Harrisburg. We know there is much more to be done! If you are interested in participating, we invite you to join the Loving our Global Neighbors Locally team for an informational meeting and discussion tomorrow at 11am in the Open Area. Reach out to Ellen Shaffer with questions.

HOLY WEEK

We invite you to plan to spend some time in fellowship, prayer, and worship as we walk together with Jesus through Holy Week!

Palm Sunday will begin with our annual children's processional.

(There will be no normal Wednesday evening meal or activities this week!)

Then, we will meet for a Maundy Thursday service with the opportunity to worship and wash one another's feet at 6:30pm on April 17. Childcare is available for children in grade 1 and younger. Please sign up here by the end of the day tomorrow if that would be helpful for you!

Join us on Good Friday for self-guided prayer stations in the Sanctuary from 5:30 to 7:30pm. All ages are encouraged to participate in both events!

We will celebrate the resurrection on Easter Sunday at 9am and 11am.

EASTER OUTREACH VOLUNTEERS

Basketful of Blessings is our annual Easter outreach event where we share baskets of goodies and practical household items with local families with children ages 3-10. This year, you can help us serve our community on the evening of Friday, April 18 (preparing baskets, set-up) and/or the morning of Saturday, April 19 (passing out baskets, greeting families, clean-up). Please sign up here if you are interested in volunteering! Registration to receive baskets will open on April 1 on our website.

HONORING OUR GRADS

If you are a soon-to-be graduate or you have a graduate in your household, please fill out this form by April 20 so that we can celebrate with you! This applies to those in both high school and post-secondary programs.

PRESCHOOL PICNIC

Join us for a preschool picnic! All children age 3 by September 1, 2025 through children going to kindergarten in the fall and their families are welcome to attend. We will meet on Saturday, April 26 from 10am-1pm at Living Water Community Church. Pizza will be provided. Please register if you plan to attend! We're also asking that each family bring something to contribute to the meal. You can sign up here to note what you'll bring!

ROOTED

Rooted is a foundational 4-week series providing an overview of Harrisburg BIC, from our history and our commitment to multiethnic community to what it means to participate in the life of HBIC today. This is an opportunity for long-time attenders to gain a fresh vision of who we are as an (ever-changing) community of faith. Rooted can also help newcomers to answer questions and dive into deeper involvement in this community!

Our Rooted classes take place on Sunday mornings at 11am and run for 4 weeks in March, May, September and November. Sign up for our next Rooted class, starting on May 4 here.

MINISTRY FAIR

Wondering what serving opportunities are available at HBIC? Join us for a Ministry Fair on Sunday, May 4! The church staff and other leaders will be in the Open Area from 10am to 11am and from 12pm to 12:30pm. Come to ask questions and explore your best fit!

CHURCH MEMBERSHIP

Our next Membership Class will be held on Sunday, May 4 at 12:45pm in the Sanctuary. Lunch will be provided. If you desire to make the commitment to membership within the body of HBIC and in the Brethren in Christ denomination, or if you want to learn more about what it means to be a member, please sign up here or at the info desks in the Sanctuary and plan to come!

We are asking that anyone interested in membership also take part in our Rooted series. Feel free to reach out to Pastor Ryan with any questions!

COMMUNITY MEAL HELP NEEDED!

For our Wednesday evening Community Meals, we can always use more help -- cooks, prep helpers, meal servers, and cleaning crew. We'd especially like to see more volunteers for serving and cleaning up as we finish out the next several months of this school year! If you attend on Wednesday evenings and would be able to help, please consider signing up for one week. Click here for the link to the volunteer sheet (there are tabs at the bottom of the page), or contact Jesse Stowell.

Each month, we highlight a Missionary of the Month, helping the congregation to know more about their work and inviting special prayer for them.

Throughout the month of April, please join in praying especially for Lynnsi Wagner, who serves Third Culture Kids and their families through the ministry of Interaction International.

Lynnsi and her husband, Micah, both grew up in other cultures with each of their missionary parents, so she understands firsthand the challenges for children growing up in international settings and helps to equip and empower Third Culture Kids and their parents to be healthy, confident, and whole.

Click here to access the monthly page with a number of specific prayer requests for Lynnsi, along with her contact info to send a note of encouragement.

(Touch base with the staff or Missions Team if you'd like to know more about any of those sent out from HBIC.)

REBUILDING TOGETHER

Wonderful progress is being made on our new roof! This is an important step in our renovation journey and we're grateful to Aaron Johnston, COR Construction, and the other teams involved in bringing us to this point. The next step will be preparing and finalizing renovation plans for the CE and Open Areas.

Check out the Rebuilding Together page on our website for all of the information about our story since last August's tornado!

SAFETY AT HBIC

Though we are hopeful that ICE and local law enforcement won’t be attempting to detain people at churches, we also want to be prepared. Out of our belief that all individuals have a right to worship freely and to be safe at a church, we have designated our Prayer Room (which has entrance doors from both the sanctuary and the open area) as a “private” space in our building. Anyone is welcome to use that space at any time for prayer or for refuge from fear.

We welcome you to contact us by email or by phone if you have a need. Here is the contact information for our pastoral and office staff.
