St. John Church - Adoration Chapel

Come spend time with Jesus!

Parish Family 14 will again sponsor a ‘Camino’ walk among the three parish campuses on Saturday, April 12, ‘Palm Saturday’. The concept is a mini version of the renowned Camino de Santiago in Spain, with ample time to meet new friends and to get short briefings on the architecture of each church. There will be vans in support for those unable to do the walk.

Two Faces in the Shadows - Watch and listen to a 30-minute performance of Two Faces in the Shadows on April 11, 2025, Friday, 6:00 PM at St. Benedict Church in lieu of Stations of the Cross. Soup Supper will be after the performance. A second performance will be held on April 12, 2025, Saturday, 6:00 PM at St. John Church immediately after the 5 PM Vigil Mass. It is a dramatic dialogue between Simon Peter and Judas Iscariot, performed by Len Kannapell and Mark Adolph, as they remember and discuss the events of the Passion of Christ. We look forward to seeing you there!

Organ Recital - Let's come together for a captivating Organ Recital on Good Friday, April 18, 2025, 3:00 PM at St. Benedict Catholic Church. We are honored to welcome Charlie Hiestand who will grace us with his masterful performance. The program, which takes about 50 minutes, will consist of 14 pieces from Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier reflecting the Stations of the Cross. Some of you have heard this program in years past; it will be a joy to have it here again this year!

Earth Day Screening of The Letter

Tues., Apr. 22, 2025, 6:30-8:30 PM. St. John the Evangelist Parish Admin Building

Our Parish Family's Saint Francis of Assisi Ministry is hosting a screening of The Letter on Earth Day. This documentary, which was released in 2022, tells the story of a journey to Rome of frontline leaders to discuss the encyclical letter Laudato Si’ with Pope Francis.

The exclusive dialogue with the Pope, included in the film, offers a revealing insight into the personal history of Pope Francis and stories never seen since he became the Bishop of Rome.

Come join us on Earth Day 2025, Tuesday, April 22, at the St. John the Evangelist Parish Admin building. We will begin at 6:30pm with an opening prayer and a brief introduction to this extraordinary film. We will then watch The Letter, which is 80 minutes in length. We will conclude with an open discussion of The Letter and reflect on potential next steps.

Can't make it to our screening? You can watch The Letter at home here.

Visit saintfrancisseattle.org for more information or to carpool to the event.

St. John Book Club

The book club wil meet on May 4 to discuss The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov. According to Goodreads, it is an audacious revision of the stories of Faust and Pontius Pilate. The Master and Margarita is recognized as one of the essential classics of modern Russian literature. The novel's vision of Soviet life in the 1930s is so ferociously accurate that it could not be published during its author's lifetime.

One hot spring, the devil arrives in Moscow, accompanied by a retinue that includes a beautiful naked witch and an immense talking black cat with a fondness for chess and vodka. The visitors quickly wreak havoc in a city that refuses to believe in either God or Satan. But they also bring peace to two unhappy Muscovites: one is the Master, a writer pilloried for daring to write a novel about Christ and Pontius Pilate; the other is Margarita, who loves the Master so deeply that she is willing literally to go to hell for him. What ensues is a novel of inexhaustible energy, humor, and philosophical depth.

CALLED TO SHARE BREAD FOR LIFE

Holy Week, a sacred time in the liturgical year, invites us to journey with Christ through his Passion, Death and Resurrection. As we

witness the Last Supper and Jesus' gift of the Eucharist, we are reminded of our call to be bread broken for others. Let us draw

strength from the Bread of Life and dedicate ourselves to serving our sisters and brothers who bear heavy crosses, bringing hope and the joy of the resurrection to the world. Visit crsricebowl.org/holy-week to learn more.

Forgiveness at Mass

The Sacrament of Penance is the Church’s special celebration of pardon, but forgiveness of sins is also one of the fruits of the Mass. There are many moments throughout the Eucharistic celebration when the texts and gestures of the Mass express the community’s sorrow for sins. Read more.
