Weekly Update

Dear Munford First UMC Friends,

This week we will welcome our Interim District Superintendent, Rev. Dr. Deborah Smith as our preacher. Dr. Smith has served most recently as the pastor of Centenary UMC in Memphis, on the staff of Germantown UMC, and the Metro DS prior to her retirement. Bishop McAlilly then asked her to return to the role in an interim capacity.

Join us this week, in our Sanctuary at 9:30am as we gather for worship together as ONE Church family. Following worship during the Sunday School hour, instead of our normal groups and classes, we will gather for a Breakfast/Brunch Potluck in the LEC! You may drop off your food in the kitchen to Claudia Wilson before worship. All are welcome, and let's get to know our District Superintendent and her family.

We hope you will join us and bring a friend to share with them all the great things happening at Munford FUMC. We are saving a seat for you!

Will's Reading Recommendations

March's Recommended Read:

For myself, one of the most important things we do together is celebrate the Sacrament of Holy Communion. This Holy Mystery: A United Methodist Understanding of Holy Communion by Gayle Carlton Felton is a valuable resource. This insightful book explores the meaning, history, and practice of Holy Communion within the United Methodist tradition. It clarifies how the sacrament is both a sacred remembrance and a means of grace, strengthening our connection to Christ and to one another. Felton’s work provides commentary and contains the text of "This Holy Mystery" which serves as the official interpretive document of The United Methodist Church, which was approved by the General Conference in 2004. This provides a theological foundation for why we celebrate the Lord’s Supper and how it shapes our spiritual lives.

Whether you are new to the faith or have participated in Communion for many years, This Holy Mystery offers a fresh perspective on this sacred practice. It is an excellent resource for individual and study groups who wish to reflect on the mystery and meaning of Christ’s presence in the Eucharist.

You can expect to see "Recommended Reads" each month, with a suggested book to fit the season of the Church. We also encourage you to check out the church library, where most of these will be available soon after!

Additional Recommended Read For Kids (and Parents)!

Big Hearts, Bright Love is a wonderful book for kids and families to explore together how to grow in love of God and Neighbor! A portion of the proceeds from the book will go to support the adoption agency of the UMC in Florida. We have ordered some copies for the church library. You can purchase your own here, or explore the FREE digital version here.
