Building Supervisor
We celebrate the news of our building supervisor Linda Marshall’s announced retirement, but we will sorely miss her. We need to start looking for her replacement. The building supervisor is responsible for all physical upkeep of the church, including but not limited to the cleaning, HVAC, plumbing, painting, electrical, carpentry, event set up, church grounds and general maintenance. It is a full-time position with a competitive salary and comes with individual health care benefits.
If you know of someone who will lovingly care for our building as Linda has, please refer them to our hiring team of Matt Arnold, Brad Kennedy, Linda, Andrew, Henry Schaefer or pass the name to Julie Satterwhite.

Palm Sunday Luncheon & Easter Egg Hunt
On Palm Sunday, April 13, stay after the 11:00 AM service for a luncheon full of favorite Easter fixings. Following the luncheon, we will have our annual Easter Egg Hunt on the grounds of the church for ages birth through 5th grade. Please bring your Easter Egg basket!
It is with love and honor for their daughter, mom, granddaughter, sister, aunt, and friend, that the Davis family dedicates the Easter eggs in memory of Lauren Davis. May our Lord’s joy be known in the laughter of Easter Egg gathering and may Lauren’s love be felt on this morning as children play and seek around her resting place in the Columbarium.

Wednesday Morning Communion in Lent (March 12-AprilL 9)
Join us in the Chapel during the Lenten season each Wednesday morning at 7:00 AM for a time of reflection, scripture, music, and eucharist. As we walk with Jesus to Jerusalem and his cross, we prepare ourselves by coming to him to receive life in the bread and in the cup. You are then invited to stay after the thirty-minute service for a time of fellowship and shared breakfast and coffee. Eucharist, Word, Community. This week, Rev. Donna Hopkins Britt will lead our Wednesday morning communion service. Donna is ordained as a Baptist minister and is a Ruling Elder at RCPC. Currently, Donna is the Commissioned Pastor at Buchanan Presbyterian Church.

Sermon Series: The Original Tortured Poets
Lent is a time to evaluate our faithfulness, our love, and our commitment to the God who saves. The Prophets of Israel and Judah show us a dogged loyalty to God in the midst of political, social, and religious unrest and disunity. They speak God’s judgment when all is well. They declare God’s hope when all is lost. Their hearts are uniquely tuned to the eternal song of God, which is the power poets possess in every time. They speak, and we do well to listen. So long before Taylor Swift’s, “The Tortured Poets Department,” there were Amos, Isaiah, Micah, Jeremiah and others living out their identity as the tortured poets speaking for God.
April 6—Holy Ground—Psalm 126 & Jeremiah 30:7-14
April 13—Palm Sunday—Love Story—Lamentations & Luke 19:28-40
April 20—Easter—Wildest Dreams—Ezekiel & Luke 24:1-12

The Bible in Black & White
Updated Schedule
March 5, 12, 18, 25* with April 1 Luncheon
Please note some date changes from Wednesdays to Tuesdays and the location change to St. John’s Episcopal Church on March 25th
The group meets weekly at 12:00 PM in the Fellowship Hall of Second Presbyterian Church. Some books in the Bible are about a specific person. What makes these stories so compelling is that they often center on individuals who live on the margins—people whose lives seem insignificant in the eyes of the powerful, yet matter deeply to God. These are the stories of God’s powerful work among the powerless. During the noon hour on March Wednesdays, The Bible in Black & White class will explore four of these narratives, seeking to understand what God sees in these individuals—and in all of us. Drs. Bill Lee and George Anderson, along with ministers from other sponsoring churches, will guide the discussion.

April Mission Partner: Habitat for Humanity Apostles Build
This Spring RCPC, along with a number of other churches and organizations, will partner with Habitat for Humanity to participate in the 2025 Apostles Build. This home will be built for Dina Aristilde and her children, Lashauna, Kyliyah, King, and Princephilip at 625 Church Avenue SE, Roanoke 24013. Property owners donated several lots in this area to Habitat and one house has already been built.
To qualify for a no-interest 30-year loan from Habitat, Dina is required to complete over a year of homeownership classes and sweat equity hours on other properties as well as her own. Mortgage payments are used to build future Habitat houses.
In lieu of a Wall-Raising Ceremony, an 8 ½ ft. 2x4 was provided for each participating church to decorate and/or place well wishes. The Youth Group decorated RCPC’s 2x4 in their distinctive fashion and added messages. Afterwards, it was placed in the Gathering Area for those who wished to leave their messages of blessing or encouragement. On March 7, the decorated board was taken to the construction site and nailed to a “Wall of Many Colors” as part of a permanent wall in the house. In addition to financial support, we will actively participate in the build by providing construction volunteers for work days on Thursday, April 24 and Saturday, May 3.
All work days will be 8:00 AM - 2:00 PM and daily groups must be 12 volunteers or less. No experience is necessary but all volunteers must be at least 16-years-old. Habitat will provide all required tools and safety equipment, water, coffee and snacks. Volunteers will need to provide their own lunch and a refillable water bottle; work gloves are strongly advised. Dress for the weather and wear sturdy closed-toed shoes like hiking boots.
Volunteers can sign up on line at: tinyurl.com/RCPCHabitat2025
We have a goal this year of a total of 20 different RCPC volunteers participating!
