Cuba
Cuba’s history is one of native Amerindian decline from the arrival of Christopher Columbus in 1492, its subsequent development as a Spanish colony over the next several centuries, and the importation of large numbers of African slaves to work the coffee and sugar plantations. U.S. intervention during the Spanish-American War in 1898 assisted the Cuban overthrow of Spanish rule. Under Fidel Castro, the Cuban revolution lasted over five years, establishing a socialist political system in 1959. Constitutionally a Marxist-Leninist socialist state, Cuba has a one-party system. One of the poorest nations in the Western Hemisphere, the average wage in Cuba is between $20-$40 U.S. per month, well below the international poverty line of just over $60 US per month, which gives the appearance of a nearly 66% poverty level there. Officially, the Triumph of the Revolution (Liberation Day), 1 January 1959, is considered Cuba’s independence from foreign rule. The Church of the Nazarene opened work in Cuba in 1902, making it one of the oldest works in the denomination.

NYC Prayer
Just a reminder to pray for NYC2026 at 20:26 (or 8:26 pm) each day! Especially as we're heading into the holidays with family and friends, we encourage you to lift up our time together in Salt Lake City, Utah, and share about the theme of WONDER.
Amos 5:8 captures this awe and wonder of God as it describes: "He who made the Pleiades and Orion, who turns midnight into dawn and darkens day into night, who calls for the waters of the sea and pours them out over the face of the land—the LORD is his name." Blessed is he!

NYI - Young Adult Ministry
After high school, people take on many different paths as they go through life and into their careers, but they often come across some of the same challenges. The YAM ministry is being formed to unite our “young” adults (high school graduates to early 30’s) in an environment where there can be great discussion regarding the many facets of life. The primary focus of the group is to grow together, through fellowship, in the Word of God.
Reagan Smith
Y.A.M. Director
Reagan Smith is the Young Adult Ministry Director for NWIL District. We would like to hear your ideas for events, gatherings, subjects you would like to talk about, hearts desire for this new ministry, etc.
