CLIENT SPOTLIGHT

Liquet receives FDA clearance

Co-founded by John Schindler & Derek Hall, Liquet is a medical device company dedicated to developing innovation to break up blood clots in the lungs from a condition known as Pulmonary Embolism, affecting more than 600,000 patients every year in the US. After his own mother’s death from pulmonary embolism in 1971, John learned firsthand how deadly blood clots can be if not treated quickly. With the help of Dr. Patrick Kelly, Liquet has developed the Versus Catheter, a tool that delivers thrombolytics, medication designed to dissolve blood clots, directly into both lungs while providing pressure monitoring to the pulmonary artery. The Versus Catheter has recently received FDA 510(k) clearance, marking the most significant milestone to date for the company. In addition, Liquet will be starting its First-in-Human clinical trial at the UVA Hospital this summer.

Through working with the Central Virginia SBDC since their company launched, Liquet has navigated fundraising, rural ecosystem networking, FDA submission, and strategic planning for commercial expansion. Even with their success, John and Derek plan to remain connected with SBDC advisors to continue growth discussions.

“The advisors are super connectors and excellent ecosystem builders - they can, in almost all cases, find meaningful connections to help you continue to grow your business.”

- John Schindler, Co-founder and CEO
