Future U Resources Relocated, Services Uninterrupted

The University Student Union (USU) closure in August 2025 will bring big changes--but one thing that won't change is your access to the resources and services that you've come to rely and depend upon.

Departments and services will begin relocating the week after finals this semester (May 2025) and will continue throughout the summer with an expected completed relocation by Aug. 15, 2025. Once the moves are complete, here's where you'll find various USU programs and services during the renovation and expansion:

  • Peterson Hall 1 (PH1):
  • 22 West Media
  • Basic Needs
  • Beach Pride Events (BPE)
  • Campus Events Office (CEO)
  • ASI Communications
  • Interfaith Center
  • Men's Success Initiative
  • Puvunga Resource Center
  • Southland Credit Union
  • Student Government
  • Student Life & Development
  • Sustain U

  • Faculty Offices 5 (F05):
  • ASI Administration
  • University Bookstore:
  • Associated Students Business Office (ASBO)
  • Associated Students Human Resources

  • University Library (First Floor):
  • Esports Lounge

  • Student Health Services (SHS):
  • Laurén Chalmers '83 Beach Pantry

  • Conference & Meeting Spaces:
  • The Pointe (Walter Pyramid)
  • Anna W. Ngai Alumni Center
  • PH1 Classrooms

We're working hard to minimize disruptions and keep you connected to most of the things the USU has to offer, even during its closure.

Future U Construction Update

Construction on the Friendship Walk Stairs will begin on April 14 and is expected to be completed by Aug. 30. This project ensures ADA-accessible pathways remain available throughout the full building closure and renovation. During construction, pedestrian traffic will be redirected to the Central Plant ramp and through the USU east entrances near Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf.

Future U Fun Facts!

Did You Know? The USU opened its doors more than 50 years ago!

The original USU officially opened Sept. 19, 1972, bringing students together like never before. Designed by renowned architect Edward A. Killingsworth, the USU embodied his signature open and airy aesthetic, making it a true "Living Room of Campus." With amenities like a Games Center, music listening lounge, and bowling alley, the USU quickly became a hub of student life. Its architectural significance even makes it eligible for individual historical status!
