Kings Swimmer Wins TWO STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS
Congratulations to Kings High School Junior, Maya Schweikert who brought home two gold medals from last weekend's Ohio High School Athletic Association State Swimming Championship in Canton, Ohio.
Maya became the first-ever Kings swimmer to win two state championships in one year! She was the defending State Champion in the 100 Backstroke and broke the State Record this year to win again. She also won a state championship in the 100 Butterfly. After her gold-winning performances, Maya was named the Division One Female Performer of the Year. As a junior, this is Maya's third state championship!
In other state swimming news, ten Kings swimmers ventured to Canton in total. The Girls 200 Medley Relay (Barrett Hogan, Madi VanSchoyck, Brynn Zistler, and Maya Schweikert) finished 13th overall in the State, and the Boys 200 Medley Relay (Jaxxon Cukovecki, Santiago Garcia-Izquieroo, Sam Shrimplin, and Greg Zubkov) finished 15th overall. Warren County Sheriff Visits CIS
The new Warren County Sheriff, Barry Riley visited the Columbia Intermediate School's 6th graders this week as their featured Power 5 Speaker.
Sheriff Riley spoke about his line of work and how he uses the Power 5 Skills (Problem Solver, Critical Thinker, Communicator, Career Ready, and Collaborator) in law enforcement.
When asked how the Power 5 Skills apply to his career, Sheriff Riley told the students a story of a time that he failed and had to make quick decisions. CIS teacher, Abby Jackson said, "Sheriff Riley shared a story about an angry turkey that left us all belly laughing! He reminded us to take some time to laugh and keep things light-hearted."
Special thanks to Sheriff Riley for the Power 5 signs that he donated for the Power 5 wall at CIS! See below.

Congratulations to the fifteen groups of students who participated in the 41st Annual Columbia Intermediate School's Puttin' on the Hits last weekend.
This very popular talent contest found groups of 5th and 6th graders entertaining the sold-out audience and judges with their lip-synching and dancing. The CIS PTO-sponsored event raised a lot of funds for future projects at CIS.
Each year, the CIS staff puts on their own lip-synching number. This year's skit was a little take on the construction happening in their building currently.
Watch their performance below.
