CARES of Central PA is a local provider agency that operates 2380 Pa. Regulated Community Based Day Programs in Centre County, Blair County and other Central Region areas. CARES of Central PA’s Day Programs support adults with intellectual disabilities to spend time in their communities, volunteer, work on goals, prepare for employment, promote independence, and much more. At CARES, the participants are the VIPs, and we refer to them as such! Currently, CARES of Central PA operates 6 community based Day Programs located in Hollidaysburg, Lewistown, Philipsburg, Bellefonte, Williamsport, and Sunbury, servicing over 90 VIPs! Since the first Day Program opened in Bellefonte in 2016, CARES of Central PA has grown rapidly.

Here are some important key facts about CARES of Central PA Day Programs:

  • CARES of Central PA Day Programs are licensed by the Office of Developmental Programs (ODP), which is a part of the Department of Human Services (DHS) under 2380 regulations.
  • State licensing will occur prior to the site opening and annually thereafter. CARES of Central PA will be responsible for these licensing inspections but will require the church’s cooperation in meeting the licensing requirements (i.e. water temperature may not exceed 120 degrees, elevator must be inspected annually, etc.).
  • Operating hours for CARES of Central PA Day Programs are 8:00am-4:00pm Monday through Friday. We are closed evenings, weekends, and all major holidays.
  • The Program Specialist (manager of each site) works in an office 8:00am-4:00pm, however our direct support staff (DSPs) work out in the field. They provide transportation 8:00am-9:00am and 3:00pm-4:00pm, while the Day Program operates 9:00am-3:00pm.
  • The VIPs and DSPs will typically be at the Day Program site anywhere from 8:45am-9:15am, and briefly again around 3:00pm. Each VIP has a quarterly meeting every 3 months which is held at the Program Specialists office. Aside from these times, the VIPs and DSPs are out in their communities!
  • CARES of Central PA rents all their Day Program sites from local churches.
  • The space needed for CARES of Central PA is a private office that is able to be locked by CARES of Central PA, and only accessed by the church in the case of an emergency, in order to protect HIPAA information. CARES would also need keys to the building for easy access.
  • CARES of Central PA also requests the use of shared space within the church for special events, and the time frames designated above (i.e. a social hall, lounge, kitchen, etc.)
  • CARES of Central PA is interested in volunteering at the church including tasks such as light cleaning, gardening, setting up for church events, taking out the trash, etc.
