March 20, 2025

As we continue 2025, we embark on a year-long celebration of the Chamber's 125th year. The Tyler Commercial Club was formed in 1900 by local business leaders in response to the growing demand for an organized group to support the economic development and promotion of Tyler and its businesses. In 1918, the Tyler Commercial Club transitioned to become the Tyler Chamber of Commerce.

Moments in History:

June 1971. The creation of a two-year senior college for Tyler was approved on May 30 when Gov. Preston Smith signed the bill authorizing the college. Harry Loftis, in a report to the June meeting of the Board of Directors, related the story of the Chamber's long effort to obtain the school.

August 1971. Construction began on Harvey Hall, Tyler's new $800,000 community building at the Fairgrounds site on West Front Street. The project fulfilled a goal toward which the Chamber has aspired for many years: construct a modern banquet and general meeting building to meet community needs.
