This presentation will cover specific issues related to researching ancestors from the ethnic region of modern-day Germany known as Ostfriesland. There are certain nuances to researching ancestors from this region that are not necessarily true about other regions and that can stump researchers unfamiliar with them. Discussed will be naming practices, patronymics, surnames, compiled records, civil and church records, immigration to the United States, newspapers, and more.

We will also look at a few actual Ostfriesen immigrant research problems.
