BLUEGRASS SUNDAY

This Sunday is "Bluegrass Sunday!" Join us at worship to enjoy the fun sounds of bluegrass during our service!

What is bluegrass music? I asked myself the same thing. According to Google: "Bluegrass music is a genre of American roots music that developed in the 1940s in the Appalachian region of the United States. The genre derives its name from the band Bill Monroe and the Blue Grass Boys. Like mainstream country music, it largely developed out of old-time music."

Bluegrass Sunday is sure to be a treat for all who can attend! See you Sunday!

Family Listening Session THIS SUNDAY, 3/23, 4:30-6:00pm

We need you parents and caregivers! How can the church better come alongside and support you and your family? Join us on March 23 for a Family Listening Session—we’d love to get a better picture of where our families are at and how the church can step in for support. Childcare provided, and at 5:30 we’ll all have dinner together! Please register at bit.ly/Familylistening so we can plan for food and childcare.

LAST CHANCE to Register for the Everyday Peacemaking Workshop

Cost is $25 per person and includes training materials, lunch, a free copy of Mending the Divides: Creative Love in a Conflicted World, and access to the small group curriculum. Wednesday Morning Bible Study:

Seven Last Words

As he suffered the pain and humiliation of death on a cross at the hands of the Roman Empire, Jesus spoke haunting, authentic words that evoked his mission. These words have inspired Christian devotional practices, music, and artwork for centuries. During this Lenten season, we’ll explore the gospel passages that contain the seven last words or phrases Jesus uttered from the cross. Join us Wednesday mornings starting at 9:30 in the Skylight Room.

Emergency Needs Team Looking for Volunteers!

Sometimes people in our congregation need a meal or a ride to an appointment. Our volunteer call list hasn't been updated in quite a while. If you would like to help occasionally in this way, contact Chelsea Bryant, at chelseabryant@outlook.com and she will put you on the list to call. You can always say no if the timing for a specific ask doesn't work for you!

Sunday Adult Education Continues...

10:45 AM 3/23 & 30 in the Skylight Room

Paul’s view of women remains one of the key issues for contemporary readers of his letters. On the one hand, it is beyond dispute that Paul recognized women as equal partners in the work of the missionary expansion of the early Church. At the same, one can point to other passages from Paul’s letters that present a less egalitarian view of women and their role within the community of believers. It turns out that Paul’s view of women is more complex than simply labeling Paul as either purely an egalitarian or purely a proponent of patriarchy. In this session we will explore Paul’s view of women, which is informed both by his historical embeddedness and his convictions concerning the new age inaugurated by the death and resurrection of Jesus.

Lenten Small Group

This Lent everyone is invited to a Lenten study group that will reignite the wonder at the core of childlike faith. Our curriculum will come from a devotional entitled Coming Back to Life, relating Lent to the natural world as it wakes up from winter. The study includes lots of optional activities and fascinating “ahas” that will intrigue you and spark your imagination. Join Steve Sparks and Katie Haney as we explore the intersection of faith and creation on Tuesday mornings from 10:00 – 11:00, beginning on March 11 in Room 4.

Lent Lunch Live! Continues...

Livestreams aren’t just for Sundays! Join Pastor Jennie every Wednesday of Lent (March 12, 19, 26, April 2, 9, 16) for a short time of reflection on scripture and prayer. She’ll be live on our YouTube channel at 12 PM. The easiest way to connect is from our website, just like you would view a Sunday service, at hamblenpres.org/live-stream. We’d love to see you there!

Save the dates of July 11-13 Family Camp at Camp White! This will be a fun family adventure on the Spokane River in Post Falls, ID. More info coming soon!

New to Hamblen? Welcome!

The pastors would love the opportunity to get to know you over coffee! Later this spring we will hold a newcomer welcoming session where you can meet more people from our congregation and learn more about Hamblen Church. If you are interested in more information about getting involved in activities, becoming a member, or want to indicate your interest in our upcoming newcomer welcoming session, please contact the church office at 509-385-0619 or email hppc@hamblenpres.org.

Dinner Groups are Forming - Sign Up by 3/31

Looking to connect with new people at Hamblen? New dinner groups will be forming in April.

Interested couples, singles and families are invited to sign up to be assigned to groups that will

meet over the course of a year – April to March. We suggest each household take a turn

organizing or hosting a gathering over the course of the year.

There will be two types of groups:

·     DINNER FOR SEVEN – couples and singles will be assigned to groups of 5-7 people.

·     FAMILY – families with children who wish to meet with other families who have

children of similar ages. Groups will be organized into three families each.

Don't think dinner is a good option for you? Please let us know, and if there is enough interest, we could coordinate a lunch or coffee group instead.

Sign up at the attended table in the Narthex. Deadline to sign up is March 31. Groups will be

assigned the week of April 6. If you have questions contact: Pam Richardson 509-710-

1392, mcveypamila@comcast.net; Kim Johnson, wahouli@gmail.com; Kay Steinhilber 509-951-

9223; Diane Bahr 509-598-1353.

Open Palms Service Day—April 13 at 10:30 AM

Once again we are celebrating Palm Sunday with an intergenerational food packing event!! We’ve loved coming together to serve our community and pack 10,000+ meals for our food-insecure neighbors. This will be directly after morning service, and will be an opportunity for everyone to serve as the body of Christ — preschoolers all the way up through retired folks! No registration necessary. No RSVP required!
