Ancient prayer practices meet modern styles of worship. Join us on February 5, the first Wednesday of the month, as we explore what it means to pray in many different ways, including prayer stations, guided meditations, journaling and more. We seek to open ourselves to the love of God, both individually and corporately. We will meet at 5:30 for dinner, and worship begins at 6:00.

A Bicentennial Moment

In anticipation of Mulberry’s upcoming Bicentennial Celebration in 2026, the Leonard Hill Cochran Historical Room presents a moment of Mulberry history.

Minutes from the Board of Stewards Meeting, August 4, 1950

“The regular meeting for the First Quarter of the Board of Stewards of Mulberry Street Methodist Church was held Friday August 4, 1950 in the dining room of the church, after enjoying a delightful supper served by a committee of the ladies of the Church at 6:30 p.m. The Trustees reported sale of the parsonage at 963 High Street for the sum of $14,302.68. Arrangements have been made for the Pastor to occupy an apartment, #30 North Garden Apartments in North Highlands until a new parsonage can be obtained. A motion by Warren Roberts was passed by the Board authorizing that the sum obtained from the sale of the parsonage amounting to $14,308.68 be turned over to the Board of Trustees.  The Pastor’s Report showed the present membership of Mulberry St. Church to be 2,406 members.”

On August 3, 1951, the Purchasing Committee for the Parsonage of Mulberry Street Methodist Church reported that a new parsonage had been purchased, located at 897 Nottingham Drive at a price of $29,000.  The church took delivery on July 2nd , paid for it in cash.  The committee also reported that “before buying this house, the Committee looked at some twelve or fifteen houses that were offered for sale.  The ones we found adequate, we were unable to buy. While we feel that we paid a high price for this Parsonage, we are thoroughly convinced that we could not have built on the present market for what we paid for it."

Morning Prayer of Petition

God of protection and strength, each day there are forces that pull me away from you/ As I begin a new day, call my attention to the temptations that lurk in my own life. Protect me from the temptation:

  • to see other people as enemies or competition,
  • to grow cynical about what is possible in my life,
  • to hoard resources and think material wealth is the path to happiness,
  • to live for myself and close my eyes to the need around me.

Guard my heart today, God, as I seek to follow you. Amen.

Evening Prayer of Gratitude

Holy one, every day your Spirit is protecting me. Even today I see that you are active in leading me towards the good and forgiving me for sins. With a heart of gratitude, I:

  • name the ways you guided me today,
  • name the ways you protected me today,
  • name the ways you provided for me today,
  • name the ways you forgave me today.

Continue to lead me not into temptation but deliver me from evil. Amen.
