KHS Student Shows Kindness to Peers

Every month at Kings High School, students are selected as students of the month for the RAISE (Respect, Accountability, Integrity, Service, and Enthusiasm) Program.

This month's RAISE student of the month, Brayden Sparks, who was chosen for Respect, was gifted a $20 DoorDash coupon. Instead of spending it on himself, he treated his entire Chemistry class to Junior Frosty's from Wendy's.

Way to go, Brayden!

KHS Mock Trial

More than 2,000 Ohio high school students took their place in courtrooms across the state for the Ohio Center for Law-Related Education’s (OCLRE) 42nd Annual Ohio Mock Trial District competition on January 17, 2025.

High School Mock Trial offers an innovative approach to learning the law and how our legal system functions. Guided by teachers and volunteer legal advisors, students participate in an original, unscripted simulated trial where they take on the roles of attorneys, witnesses, and bailiffs/timekeepers.

Three Kings High School Mock Trial Teams participated in the District Competition held at the Warren County Courthouse. All three teams won their morning trials, but only one of the teams, Team A won their afternoon trial advancing them to Regionals which will take place on February 7.

The following students won awards at the District Competition:

Outstanding Attorney Award - Thomas Lu, Roksana Abduvasieva, and Alexia Bokumbe.

Outstanding Witness Award - Israel Adamson, Lauren Rubel, and Jibril Abdi.

This year's competition's case examines the intersection of the First Amendment, defamation, and the rise of generative artificial intelligence (AI). This case specifically looks at what happens when the public interest in parody and political commentary bumps against the new capabilities for realistic deepfakes in a political campaign.

KHS Mock Trial Adviser is KHS Government teacher, Mrs. Lisa King.

KJH Students Create Toy for Cerebral Palsy

Students in Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Design and Modeling classes at Kings Junior High School are creating toys for children with disabilities.

This is the first design project for the class where students were tasked with creating a toy to use during occupational therapy for a child who was born with Cerebral Palsy.

Before designing, students discussed how engineers need to complete background research first to best serve their clients. Students worked in small groups researching and learning about Cerebral Palsy, how it can affect motor skills, and what occupational therapy does to help build those motor skills.

Students then cited their research sources for credibility, edited, and presented their research to their PLTW teacher, Sara Nicholls. Once they felt like they had a good idea, they then started designing and building the toy prototype with the criteria/constraints given.

After the toy was built, they presented their prototype and explained how they would advance the design for the ‘2.0’ version.  What a great hands-on experience for our students!

In an effort to be "green," the District does not send paper flyers home. We use a platform called Peachjar that houses flyers of community programs and resources.

Parents receive approved flyers via email, and they are posted on our digital flyerboard for easy retrieval. Any organization can distribute information to our community by creating an account!
