WHAT'S NEXT

Let’s play ball!

Friday, April 4, at 7:00 come and enjoy everyone’s favorite movie about America’s favorite pastime; no, not reading my columns every three weeks in the Wilmington News Journal, I’m talkin’ BASEBALL!

Field of Dreams, the 1989 baseball fantasy drama, packed with an all-star cast of Kevin Costner, Ray Liotta, James Earl Jones, Amy Madigan, and Burt Lancaster, will illuminate the Murphy Theatre screen as we welcome back the game of our youth, and our Reds, still mathematically in the postseason playoff hunt, this week anyway.

Field of Dreams is the story of an Iowa farmer who builds a baseball field in the middle of his cornfield, which attracts the ghosts of baseball legends, including Shoeless Joe Jackson, masterfully portrayed by Liotta.

Just $7 gets you in, or $12 for the entire family to enjoy this PG rated, Oscar-nominated classic.

If we show it, will they come?

Don’t forget to visit Charlie’s before the film, for

Happy Friday Hours, starting at 5:00, for a couple cold Buds with your old buds, and maybe snag a hot dog or two, in honor of baseball, and hot dogs.

Saturday, April 5, Over the Rhine returns after what many say was way too long a time away. We are so excited to have this talented group back to play our stage for a 7:30 concert. Great seats still remain.

Over the Rhine will be joined by members of The Newbees, a band described as “modern, vintage rock and roll” for a deep dive into the wild edges of Over the Rhine’s catalog of recordings, including songs from their critically-acclaimed albums Eve, Films For Radio, OHIO and much more.

This six-piece version of Over the Rhine will turn up the volume and bring a smile to anyone who has followed the band for years, and also surprise new listeners with their rock and roll energy, musicianship and great vocal harmonies. Look for a career spanning evening of stories and songs that trace the many years and miles, tears and smiles.

If you love comedy, you’re gonna love The Wonder Bread Years. If you don’t love comedy, then you won’t. It’s that simple.

While you’re pondering that, check out The Wonder Bread Years on our website or on theirs. Seinfeld and Tonight show writer Pat Hazell, is coming to The Murphy with his hit one man show, (with slides)

The Wonder Bread Years, Saturday, April 12, at 7:30.

All seats are just $35.00.

We’re going to the dogs! Or rather, the dogs are coming to us! Bark your calendar for Saturday, April 19, at 3:00 for the one and only Cirque Du Canines dog show extravaganza! A whole bunch of happy hounds will delight the entire family with their fanciful tricks and eye-catching looks. All tickets are just $25. Don’t miss this show!

And speaking of pets... Kiwanis Club of Wilmington are hosting the Coolest Pet in Clinton County Contest as a fundraiser for their organization that does all sorts of awesome stuff for youth in our community. You can still enter and/or VOTE for a small donation HERE. (until April 11) The top three winners will be announced at intermission during the Cirque du Canines show!

What's Coming

Does your group need to raise some funds?

But you want to try something different, something unique, something that doesn’t require too much effort or lifting?

Have we got the fundraiser for you!

Murphy Theatre

Money Maker Movies.

Here’s how it works…simply choose one of our movies posted on our website, then contact us to purchase 50 or 100 tickets at a major discount, then sell those tickets at whatever price your group decides. That’s it, that’s all you do, just sell the tickets.

You don’t need your seven-year old hitch-hiking and going door-to-door selling knock off designer cat boots, fake Rolex watches, or used lice combs, out of a wet, cardboard box. And to make it even more attractive, you don’t pay rent for the theatre, and you don’t pay for the rights of the movie; we’ll take care of all of that. We even have our concessions open for snacks and beverages.

Contact Amanda Martin at mandy@themurphytheatre.org to get this stress free, easy going fundraiser started.

The Clinton County Community Band will present their next concert, called, Irish Tunes for a Spring Concert, Tuesday night, April 15, at 7:00. Come and support local musicians making great music together. Tickets are just $10.00 and available at the door.

SAVE THE DATE!!!!

We’ve got the one and only, official National Geographic Explorer coming to The Murphy Theatre on Tuesday, April 22 to tell us all about sharks, as part of our live speaker series. You’ll learn more about sharks than you ever thought you wanted to know, maybe even more than you should know.

Tickets are just $20.00 for adults, and $10.00 for students.

National Geographic Live brings their explorers from the field to your city, live on stage. Swim alongside shark researcher Dr. Jess Cramp as she rewrites the story of these graceful icons.

National Geographic Live: The Untold Story of Sharks

We are sad NO ONE has drawn us a shark...or made a bubble gum sculpture, or a foil relief...

REMEMBER: If you or someone you know bought a ticket (or more than one) to see Moon Mouse, all you have to do is bring us your Shark Art (ANY kind) between now and April 22 for display and to score a FREE ticket to see National Geographic Live: The Untold Story of Sharks!

Open to students of ALL ages!

Special thoughts, wishes, and prayers going out to our dear friend and Murphy Member, Marina Dodaro, as she continues to recover from surgery after her most recent UFC match. Hurry on back now Marina, ya’hear?

TRY NOT TO LOOK IMPRESSED

And Finally...

PLEASE purchase your concert tickets ONLY from The Murphy Theatre website. When you go to our ticketing site, if your computer does not display the words, AudienceView, or Ovation, you are not on the correct site. You must begin your online ticketing process by typing in www.themurphytheatre.orgWhen in doubt, give us a shout and we’ll take care of you on the phone, or stop in Wednesday through Friday, from 11:00-6:00, or

ninety minutes prior to

our concerts.

These thoughtless ticket ripper-offers should be forced to be a guest for an entire week on The View.

Don’t forget, it’s not too late

to take out a Murphy Theatre Membership for 2025.

Great benefits befall our members, and it still makes financial sense to join to enjoy the same perks as those who are already in the family.

And besides that, it helps

The Murphy with our very necessary ongoing operating costs, such as foot massage service for Jojo, and facials for General Manager of Charlie’s, Mr. Brad.

Memberships start

as low as $50.00.
