Supporting Fire-Affected Communities in Los Angeles

In response to the ongoing fire crisis affecting much of Los Angeles, BOMA Greater LA has launched the Second Wave Support Donation Drive, aimed at addressing the continued needs of fire victims after the initial round of aid has been delivered. This initiative offers donation opportunities for both local and out-of-area supporters.

BOMA California Engages on Prop 36 Implementation

BOMA California continues to engage on the implementation of Proposition 36, the retail theft measure that garnered overwhelming support in November. BOMA California Administrator Matthew Hargrove addressed the measure at yesterday's CREW Sacramento breakfast, alongside Placer County District Attorney Morgan Gire (pictured above).

Later in the afternoon, Hargrove participated in a Prop 36 briefing organized by the Sacramento Metro Chamber and Sacramento County District Attorney Thien Ho, joining seven District Attorneys and key leaders from both the public sector and the business community. BOMA California will continue to play a central role in the implementation of this measure, given the impact of retail theft on our member companies.

Assembly Bill 98 Stakeholders Convene

On Monday, BOMA California partnered with California Business Properties Association (CBPA) and NAIOP California for a meeting of stakeholders of Assembly Bill 98, the new warehouse limitation law. While AB 98 bill author Assemblymember Juan Carillo (D-Palmdale) was initially scheduled to address the group, he was pulled away to pressing matters related to the Los Angeles fires.

The coalition of over 50 stakeholders from commercial real estate, local government, and others were updated on the latest efforts to come to a consensus with the bill author on technical changes to the bill and fixes to the Statue. For more information or to get involved, contact Skyler Wonnacott at swonnacott@cbpa.com.

California Drops Diesel Truck Ban Plans Ahead of Trump Administration

California regulators have shelved their plan to phase out diesel trucks, withdrawing a request for federal approval less than a week before President-elect Donald Trump’s return to the White House. The California Air Resources Board had previously voted to ban new diesel big rigs by 2036 and require large fleets to transition to zero-emission models by 2042.

The decision reflects concerns that the Trump administration, which has opposed California’s electric vehicle mandates and emissions authority in the past, would reject the waiver needed to enforce the ban. This follows a similar move in December when the state abandoned plans to boost electric motorcycle sales.

Resources On New Legislation Signed Into Law

The 2024 legislative session led to numerous new laws impacting the commercial real estate industry. BOMA California has created fact sheets to help keep you informed on new laws. These legislative summaries include:

  • AB 98 - Warehouse Development Restrictions
  • SB 1103 - Commercial Lease Mandates
  • AB 2364 - Janitorial Regulations
  • AB 2904 - Industry Sponsored Zoning Notice Bill
  • And more!

While these summaries outline the significant provisions and implications of the new laws, it is not intended to serve as legal advice. Members are encouraged to consult with legal counsel for specific guidance on compliance on new laws.
