Denali Peak Principal Jeni Mason has been named Alaska Association of Secondary School Principals (AASSP) Region II Principal of the Year. Denali PEAK is in the Denali Borough School District, where she has served for 14 years.
AASSP sponsors regional and statewide Principal of the Year recognition awards to honor the educational leaders who play such a pivotal role in student success. They may be nominated by anyone – students, staff, parents, district office staff or principal peers - with awards finalized by AASSP members in their region. Regional Principals of The Year are eligible to be in the running for the statewide Alaska Principal of The Year.
"DBSD is excited and proud to have Jeni Mason recognized as the AASSP Region II Principal of the Year," said Dan Polta, Denali Borough School District Superintendent. "Principal Mason has a strong commitment to our students, both within Denali PEAK and across all the schools in our district."
Garin Martin Assistant Principal at Denali PEAK said Principal Mason is a dynamic leader who goes above and beyond to support students and staff. "Through her innovative initiatives, she has strengthened instructional practices for parents, increased student achievement, and fostered a positive, inclusive school/community culture."
Superintendent Polta congratulated Principal Mason saying, "Her efforts as a principal and as our Director of Special Education help drive student achievement higher by providing teachers, teaching assistants, and parents with the tools and resources they need to support our children."
Rick Dormer, AASSP President, said, "Our Alaska Regional Principals of the Year are hard-working leaders who have made purposeful, positive impacts on the lives of students, staff and the communities in which they work."
Dormer congratulates the 2025 AASSP Regional Principals of the Year saying, "I'm proud to be colleagues with these exceptional leaders. Thank you for serving our schools in such an excellent manner."
