FEBRUARY 2024

In 1964, President Lyndon B. Johnson issued the first proclamation declaring February American Heart Month. Each year, this is a time to spotlight heart disease, by bringing awareness and sharing how to take steps to prevent this deadly disease. According to the American Heart Association, heart disease is a leading cause of death in the United States for both men and women. I encourage you to remember to care for your heart. I believe that it is not a coincidence that February is the month that we honor the Holy Family. The Holy Family is such great model for us. The heart is our symbol of love and it all begins with the family. Make this a month of love in your family, church and community.

Father Timothy Sahd

I keep Holy Water in my car for "emergencies" (special blessings, etc). Recently, I needed to bless something when I was out, and grabbed the Holy Water from my car. I attempted to sprinkle it, but it wasn't coming out. I realized it was frozen!

It made me realize that the instruments we use for God's presence on this earth (Sacraments) are all based on matter, and they are bound to physics and the rules of science. Even Holy Water can freeze! Furthermore, it made me realize the truth that we will not have the need for the Eucharist in Heaven, because the True Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist is built on bread and wine. It is dependent on matter. But in Heaven, God is not dependent on matter, or on the rules of physics or science. His Presence is enough.

Am I ready to get rid of things -- everything -- in order to be with Him. Is He enough, or do I need the "extras"? I pray that as we get deeper into Ordinary Time, we desire not passing things, but the things of Eternity! God bless you,

Fr. Sahd

Holy Family Radio depends on our volunteers. If you feel called to help us, please pray about it and be open to God's will. We can particularly use someone who is willing to learn some of our technical operations. This person should know how to work computers. We can train you on our procedures. Call us at 717-525-8110 or email us at contact@720WHYF.com.

For more than a century, AM radio has evolved to meet the needs of our communities. More than 80 million listeners depend on AM radio each month. AM radio is also the backbone of the Emergency Alert System, which keeps us safe in dangerous times. It's reliable and free and public safety depends on it. Text AM to 52886 and tell Congress we need AM radio in cars. (Some car makers are considering removing AM radios from new cars being made in the US.) Let’s keep AM radio in our cars!

Now you can listen to our local programs on YouTube. Use the ink below!

Scripture of the Month

John 1:14 – The Word became flesh, he lived among us, and we saw his glory, the glory that he has from the Father as only Son of the Father, full of grace and truth.

Update from Russ Fry

Happy Groundhog Day! It’s always good to see this day roll around. It always gives me hope for an early Spring regardless of the prediction. Unfortunately, this year we won’t see the 50+ and Women’s Expos returning. The owners/organizers have retired and were unable to find someone to buy the business. We will miss this venue for meeting our listeners and talking to the other vendors.

We are currently putting some emphasis on getting more business donors willing to promote with us. We would appreciate it if you would mention Holy Family Radio to the businesses that you patronize and suggest that they support us. If you would like to help contact local businesses, please call the station at 717-525-8110. Thank you for your continued support of our mission.

February: The Holy Family

In February we honor the Holy Family. The Holy Family is the most perfect reflection of the love of the Trinity and sets before us the most perfect model of virtue for all Christian homes.

In the words of His Holiness Pope Leo XIII, "Nothing truly can be more salutary or efficacious for Christian families to meditate upon than the example of this Holy Family, which embraces the perfection and completeness of all domestic virtues."

How to celebrate: Pray with (or for) your family during this month. At the start of each day, ask Jesus, Mary, and Joseph for the grace to follow their example of love and selflessness.
