LaGuardia has selected The Switzer Group to lead the design of the Cohen Career Collective. The Switzer Group will manage a team of architects and engineers to construct the Cohen Career Collective, a 160,000-square-foot state-of-the-art workforce training center on the LaGuardia campus in Long Island City. In March 2024, The Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation, led by philanthropist and New York Mets owner Alex Cohen, awarded a grant of $116.2 million to LaGuardia Community College to create the Cohen Career Collective. This is the largest gift ever presented to a community college in the United States, and the largest donation awarded to a college in the City University of New York (CUNY).
LaGuardia was recently awarded a $200K grant from The Mother Cabrini Health Foundation (MCHF) to support the Community Health Worker Pipeline Development Program (CHWDP). This is the fourth grant awarded by The MCHF in support of the CHWDP. “We appreciate the generous support and on-going partnership with the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation,” said Hannah Weinstock, Senior Director of Workforce Development at LaGuardia. “LaGuardia continues to reinforce its commitment to helping diverse populations obtain skills to help them earn employment and move up the socioeconomic ladder. This grant helps make a difference in the lives of many health workers across New York City.”

Donors Help LaGuardia CARES Expand Support for Students Facing Housing and Food Insecurity
Thanks to recent donations from Airbnb, the Department of Social Services (DSS), and ReThink Food, LaGuardia CARES is building on its efforts to help students who are facing housing troubles and food insecurity. Airbnb, which has been an ongoing partner of LaGuardia CARES over the past two years, recently awarded an additional $50,000, bringing Airbnb’s total contributions to the program to $200,000. These funds will go toward fighting and preventing student homelessness. LaGuardia CARES also received $31,000 from the DSS, to go toward improving its food pantry services. And on January 28, Rethink Food, a New York-based non-profit, visited LaGuardia CARES to deliver meals for students. These vital donations help ensure that students facing housing and food insecurity have the resources they need to stay in school and complete their education.
