Fiscal Year '26 Recommended Budget is Now Live

This comprehensive plan outlines how public funds will support essential services like public safety, parks, infrastructure, and libraries—impacting nearly every part of daily life. Community members are encouraged to get involved, attend upcoming public hearings, and help shape the City’s financial priorities.

Council to Consider Additional Tenant Protections


On Tuesday, April 22, the City Council will consider an ordinance to bolster the City’s existing tenant protections related to evictions due to substantial remodels by adding three provisions initially recommended by the Ordinance Committee in 2023, but not included in the ordinance adopted in January 2024. Participation is available in person or virtually, with Spanish interpretation provided.

Earth Day Festival Celebrates 55 Years


Join the Earth Day Festival this Saturday, April 26, and Sunday, April 27, at Alameda Park. Visit the city’s booth to meet staff from the Sustainability and Resilience Department, Santa Barbara Public Library, Public Works Department’s Water Resources Division, Waterfront Department, and Community Development Department. Community members are advised to expect traffic delays and street closures around Alameda Park.

Vegetation Management Crew creates defensible space by clearing invasive plants from nearby homes.

Protecting Neighborhoods with Defensible Space in City Parks


The City’s Vegetation Management Crew will begin work this week in 14 parks to reduce wildfire risk by maintaining defensible space, the buffer zone between buildings and surrounding vegetation that can help slow or stop the spread of wildfire. Crews are removing invasive species, deadwood, and overgrown vegetation to reduce fuel loads. Work also includes trimming along front country trails and fire access roads to keep them clear for emergency vehicles and personnel. This work is part of the City's Wildfire Resiliency Project.

Upcoming Information Session for the De la Vina Bridge Replacement Project


The City will host an information session on Wednesday, April 23, to share details about the upcoming De La Vina Bridge Replacement Project, which is scheduled to begin construction in May 2025. The project includes safety features, a longer bridge that meets modern standards, improved storm drain facilities, and enhancements to Mission Creek’s alignment and natural habitat. Attendees will have the opportunity to review project plans and ask questions during the session, Spanish interpretation will be available.
