A Celebration of Black History: Reflections on the history of surgery, pediatrics and ob/gyn

Join a tri-campus address followed by a local presentation honoring the contributions of Black Americans in medicine and healthcare. The Columbus event will include a ceremony unveiling the research poster, Tragedy And Healing: The Impact Of Two Black Surgeons In The Jim Crow South, which was the first place winner of the American College of Surgeons 2024 History of Surgery poster contest.

Medical students present at regional ob/gyn conference
Second-year medical students Julia Stager and Sarah Monteiro presented at the South Atlantic Association of Obstetricians & Gynecologists Annual Meeting in January. Their oral and poster presentations explored a rare case study on laparoscopic hysterectomy complications, providing valuable insights for fellow physicians. A special thanks to Dr. Matthew Kahrmann, MUSM alumnus and preceptor, for mentoring them throughout the project!

February 7 - Wear Red Day
The Brexton Foundation is celebrating National Wear Red Day to raise awareness for heart disease. The Foundation was created by Sibrana Oquendo, Valdosta clerkship coordinator, and her husband Blake in honor of their son Brexton, who died from a congenital heart defect in 2022.
