Principal's Letter

Hello Grant Families,

Welcome back! I hope each of you had a fun and restful spring break. It has been wonderful to see smiling students and adults back in the building ready for the final sprint to the end of school. Only two months to go!

Here are some important updates as we finish up the 2024-2025 school year:

  • Each spring in the state of Washington, all students in grades 3-5 take the Smarter Balanced tests in Math and ELA. Students in grade 5 will also take the Washington Comprehensive Assessment of Science (WCAS). Families can visit Smarter Balanced and WCAS for more information about the tests. Our students will begin testing in May. A more detailed calendar will be sent to families in the coming days.
  • Enrollment for the 2025-2025 school year is underway! Please make sure our office staff has the most up to date contact information for your family. Also, if you have some new neighbors, or incoming kindergarten or preschool students, please remind them to register!
  • Our lost and found is overflowing! Please stop into the front vestibule to collect any lost items. We will be clearing out the lost and found next week!

Also, Congratulations to some very special students! Hser Law Eh W., Eugene H. and Matthew W. Have all earned the perfect attendance award! These three students have done such an amazing job being at school and on time every day. Please remember the importance of consistent attendance as we finish our school year. More research on why attendance matters can be found here at www.attendanceworks.org.

Have a great weekend!

Love,

Mrs. Searcy

Principal, Grant Elementary

For more information, visit https://www.spokaneschools.org/page/volunteer. (If you've previously filled out a paper volunteer application, you'll need to update digitally after the end of this year.)

What's for Breakfast and Lunch?

Breakfast and lunch menus are always available online. All students eat free thanks to the Community Eligibility Provision Program. Students can purchase an extra entree, called a "super" for $2.00.

T.E.A.M. Grant Updates

T.E.A.M. Grant is the parent-teacher group for Grant Elementary. We support the students and staff through various requests presented to the group. The next T.E.A.M. Grant meeting is Tuesday, May 6, at 3:30 in the library. We would love to have you join us! Free childcare is available.

Husky Highlights

Living Voices recently came to Grant to perform one of their dynamic solo performances combined with archival film to transform history into a moving, personal journey. Fly for Freedom focused on some of the unsung heroes of World War II, specifically the little-known contributions of Black women in World War II aviation, as one trailblazing young pilot flies for Double Victory-championing democracy at home and abroad.

Our 5th graders had a great time at the Career Fair! Thank you to everyone who volunteered their time to make this a great success! Our students have a greater vision of what their futures can hold!

We had a fun March Madness Spirit Week as we headed into Spring Break!

Students have been working really hard in library exploring the Finch Robots that were recently purchased by T.E.A.M. Grant with donations that were designated to STEM specific activities.

If your student is doing something amazing in their free time, please email SherylPo@spokaneschools.org. We would love to highlight the awesome things our students do beyond the classroom!
