IAAE Advocacy Day

The Iowa Alliance for Arts Education (IAAE) will be sponsoring the annual Arts Education Advocacy Day on Wednesday, January 22. Participants may register to be a virtual and/or in-person advocate for this important chance to communicate with Iowa legislators on the importance of arts education in our state. Virtual advocates will be sent a customizable template that can be personalized and emailed to their assigned legislators. This email will contain links to advocacy videos and materials. Our goal is to have virtual advocates from all 99 counties so that every legislator is contacted by a constituent! This process will take 5-10 minutes of your time.

If you would be willing to advocate in-person and come to Des Moines and speak to legislators, IAAE will provide you with training the morning of January 22 as well the advocacy material that you will deliver to your assigned legislators. In-person advocates normally complete meetings with their assigned legislator visits by noon. Lunch will be provided by IAAE. Advocates are invited to attend IAAE testimony for the Education and Appropriations Committees as well. The personal contact is so important since there are many new legislators since our last in-person Advocacy Day in 2024.

Please click on the following link to register as an advocate:

Please contact Leon Kuehner, IAAE Executive Director, if you have any questions. Thank you for your support of arts education in our state!

IBA Perry Commission Project Donations and Consortium Memberships

We extend our heartfelt thanks to everybody who has supported the Iowa Bandmasters Association Perry Commission Project. Through donor contributions, consortium memberships, and the support of the Iowa Arts Council, we are delighted to report that we have met our financial goals for the project.

The opportunity for individuals and organizations to donate does still exist. However, it's important to know that any incoming financial support will go directly to the Perry Community Schools Band Department. Individuals and organizations wishing to be recognized in the score should plan to donate or join the consortium by Friday, January 31. This is necessary because the program notes and recognitions must be formatted for publication.

Composer Michele Fernandez has completed the commissioned work. The concert featuring her composition will be at 7:00 p.m. on April 7, 2025 at the Perry Performing Arts Center, 1200 18th Street, Perry, Iowa. The ensemble performing the commissioned work will include Perry Community Schools band students in collaboration with the Central College Symphonic Wind Ensemble, conducted by Mr. Brad Lampe, Central College Director of Bands. We hope you will be able to attend this special event!

If you'd like to donate (all proceeds are now going to the Perry Community Schools Band Department) or join the consortium, click on the link below:

IBARD Volunteer List

IBA's Retired Directors are an excellent resource for our Active Members and their band programs! Do you need suggestions on literature? Advice on a specific instrument? A clinician or adjudicator? Or maybe just somebody to chat with? Consider reaching out to an IBARD member that has expressed an interest in volunteering! To see the list of IBARD Volunteers, click on the link below:

IBARD Volunteer List

If you're an IBARD member not on the list and would like to be added, please contact IBARD chair, Terry Hanzlik, PhD: ibard@bandmasters.org

Be Sure to Complete your Membership Payment!

A quick reminder, to be a member, a person must register AND PAY their dues. We have run into several situations where someone registers online and then does not finish up with payment. Members who are not current with their payment will not be on the mailing list to receive their Fall Bandmaster Magazine.

Log in and renew your membership now!

There are no paper membership cards this year. We encourage digital payments; either credit, debit, or ACH. You can print your invoice and submit to your business office or forward the payment email invoice. Please help us in this transition away from paper membership cards and paper checks.
