LANDFILL FACTS

The county did not sell the landfill.

The county has contracted the landfill out to a private operator.

The county nor the operator can take certain items because we do not have a lined landfill as federally required, we were the last in the State to make accommodations.

The county purchased the neighboring parcel and has started the process with the contractor to build a lined landfill.

Once we have a lined landfill, there will be changes and modifications as to what can and cannot be collected.

Many items are costing the operator because they are being handled several times over to be disposed of.

Trash is an expensive business with many regulations out of our hands at the county level.

Keep McIntosh Beautiful is thrilled to announce an extraordinary gift of 9 acres of McIntosh County land, generously donated by R & S Altman LLC. This incredible contribution allows us the freedom to dream big and make a lasting impact.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Richard Altman for believing in our mission to enhance and preserve the beauty of McIntosh County. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that operates without state or local funding, support like this is truly transformative and deeply appreciated.

As we step into 2025, we are filled with excitement, inspiration, and a renewed commitment to serving our community. Together, we can achieve great things for McIntosh County. Stay tuned—there’s so much more to come!

Shout out to Staples for making it easy to recycle small batteries. “You don’t realize how many you use,” says Alan Shedd, CEO of Integrated Energy Systems, a KMB Partner. “They make it easy by providing a recycling box - fill it up, return it to the store and win points toward your next purchase. They provide a free replacement box to help you recycle more.”

Staples does even more than battery recycling.

Thanks KMB President Selso Tello for coordinating December’s PopUp Litter PickUp on Dec. 13! Shellman Rd and White Chimney Park! Just 2 hours - 16 bags of trash, old cooler and car parts. Mostly plastic & glass bottles and plastic ice bags.

“What if everyone picked up just 1 piece of trash a day? With the world’s population at 8.2 billion people, even if 1% picked up ONE piece of trash everyday, that would add up to over 29.9 billion pieces of trash a year. I don’t know about you, but I want to be part of that 1%. The 1% that makes a difference.”

ABANDONED BUILDING PROGRAM

Looking for a way to remove an abandoned building or mobile home from your property? Keep McIntosh Beautiful may be able to help.

*We're in somewhat of a holding pattern at this time. We're currently trying to vet a new contractor to help us demo and dispose. Please be patient. If you know of one that might be interested, please contact KMB 912.289.1083. Thank you!

Dilapidated and abandoned buildings are eyesores that detract from our community’s appearance and reduce the value of the property where they are located. They can also be unsafe and unhealthy nuisances that are locations for criminal activity.

To address the problem in McIntosh County, KMB offers financial assistance to OWNERS for the demolition and removal of abandoned buildings from THEIR property. We salvage and recycle what can safely be removed.

STRUCTURES MUST BE LOCATED IN MCINTOSH COUNTY, UNOCCUPIED, AND BEYOND REPAIR TO QUALIFY.

Thank you to the many dedicated partners that help with this program. You are appreciated!
