A publication by Gloucester's Department of Community Engagement and Public Information

The Gloucester Educational Foundation would like to remind the community that on Saturday, March 22, 2025, from 9:30-11:00am, it will host its annual 3k/8k Run/Walk event at Gloucester High School. The run will impact vehicle traffic on Short Lane and some of the surrounding neighborhoods (Dunston Hall and Ladysmeade Subdivision).

The Gloucester County Sheriff's Office will be on sight to assist with traffic control on both Short Lane and TC Walker Road. Travel lanes on Short Lane will be reduced to a single lane of travel during the event. This will only be between Dunston Hall Subdivision and the TC Walker Road intersection. Please expect some minor delays during the event and we encourage everyone to be safe in their travels.

Clean Gloucester Day is part of the Great American Cleanup, a two-day effort to remove litter and improve community appearance across all 17 cities and counties in Hampton Roads. Community beautification projects include:

• Removing litter from roadsides, neighborhoods, beaches, waterways, and parks for cleaner communities

• Planting trees, flowers and community gardens to strengthen green infrastructure

• Restoring nature trails, parks and playgrounds to encourage outdoor activity

• Restoring businesses and storefronts to encourage economic development

Everyone has a role to play in keeping Hampton Roads beautiful. From individuals to families, school groups to civic organizations, small businesses to large corporations. YOU can make a difference for your community.

VDOT, in partnership with Gloucester County and several regional planning organizations, has transportation planning studies underway for two corridors in Gloucester:

Route 14 between Main Street and Ware Neck Road

Route 17 between Short Lane and Featherbed Lane

Each study kicks off with an online survey to gather public comment on existing travel conditions. The feedback will help to shape the direction of the study. Once concepts for potential transportation improvements are developed later this year, an in-person meeting (one for each road) will be held to present them and gather feedback. A second online survey for each study will be launched at that time, as well.

The initial online survey for the Route 14 study is active now-March 24. Then, on March 24, the Route 17 survey will launch and will be open for comment for two weeks, through April 7.
