In 2024, the UWM Research Foundation filed 11 provisional patent applications, highlighting the groundbreaking work emerging from our labs. These patents represent a diverse range of technologies—from novel cancer treatments and diagnostic tools to cutting-edge advancements in robotics, water disinfection, and aerospace materials.


By securing early-stage intellectual property, UWM researchers are not only protecting their innovations but also paving the way for industry partnerships and the commercialization of transformative solutions. These patents provide a sneak peek into the next generation of breakthrough technologies, opening doors for collaboration and investment that could change the world.

4 New UWM Startups: Innovating Health and Independence


Startups play a crucial role in transforming groundbreaking research into real-world solutions. According to a 2023 survey by the Association of University Technology Managers, over 70% of university licenses go to startups and small companies, underscoring their importance in driving innovation to market. This year, UWM inventors launched four promising new companies to commercialize their technologies - Elafar Therapeutics, PerryMedical, RoboHeal Innovations, and SequiDose.

8 UWM Affiliated SBIR Applications Request $3.6M to Advance Innovation


The federal Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program aims to drive innovation by providing funding to small businesses for research and development. SBIR funding is vital for university innovations, helping startups bridge the gap between ideas and commercialization. In 2024, UWM innovators and entrepreneurs participated in eight SBIR applications, requesting approximately $3.6 million to advance promising technologies and foster economic growth.
