Holiday Tree Lighting Drew a Crowd of 650+ at Redford Place Park

Rolesville's Holiday Tree Lighting drew over 650 people last night. It was the first year the tree lighting was held at Redford Place Park. Those who attended got pictures taken with Santa, rode around on the trackless train, jumped around in the bounce house, and watched as we lit our NEW 14-foot Christmas Tree. Rolesville Elementary School students performed for the crowd, and Mayor Ronnie Currin was there to read "The Night Before Christmas," after the tree was lit up.

The Alzheimer's Association was also there to educate people about the disease. They asked people to put out luminaries for loved ones with Alzheimer's. At the end of the night, all the lights at the park were turned off to reflect and remember those loved ones.

If you attended last night's tree lighting, we want YOUR feedback. You can click on the survey HERE to share your thoughts.

Main & Young Street Intersection Construction Updates

The Town of Rolesville continues to work with its partners at the intersection of Main & Young. Significant progress has been made on many aspects of the project.

  • Fred Smith Company will begin adding storm drainage from the parking lot on N. Main Street to Williams Street in the coming weeks. Preparations for this process are underway. The addition of storm drainage is essential to keeping the intersection and areas around it from holding too much water during storms.
  • The sidewalk in front of NC Movement on E. Young Street is almost done. Crews have poured concrete. More grading is still needed before it is complete. By the time the project is complete, the intersection will have sidewalks and pedestrian crosswalks that comply with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards, which will ensure the safety of residents and visitors as the town grows.
  • NC Communications workers are installing conduit for fiber on the new and updated traffic signals throughout the project.

We are still waiting on a few more key elements related to the project. Officials with the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality are reviewing the test results on the possible fuel tank at the corner of E. Young and S. Main Streets. We are working with our partners to mitigate any potential contaminated materials found per NC law.

Change orders and submittal reviews for the new waterline portion of the project are moving along. The project team is currently working on a water line design that has the potential to shorten the construction period. Fred Smith Company will begin procuring materials as soon as the change order and submittals are approved, and work on the water lines is anticipated at the start of the new year. The existing water lines do not meet current standards. Replacing them is necessary before fully reopening the intersection.

As part of Fred Smith Company policy, their workers and subcontractors will be off for the Christmas holiday from December 20, 2024, to January 1, 2025. They will be back on-site on January 2, 2025. The estimated timeline for reopening the intersection fully remains Spring/Summer 2025.

Once the work at Main & Young Streets is complete, the intersection will have new stormwater drainage to prevent flooding, new water lines to better serve residents and business owners, and new sidewalks and pedestrian walkways to keep everyone safe. This project is a $23 million investment in the future of Rolesville’s downtown, creating a safer, walkable, more successful, and more attractive Main Street for residents, businesses, and visitors.

Your Input Needed for Comprehensive Land Use Plan Update

The Town of Rolesville needs help updating its Comprehensive Land Use Plan. When completed, this plan will help to guide growth and development over the next 20 years. The Town’s current comprehensive plan was developed in 2017, and it is time to update it to ensure the Town is serving the needs of the current residents and proactively preparing for the future.
