The parks accommodate a variety of classes and programs, art, athletic facilities, lakes, nature preserves, dog parks, playgrounds, swimming pools, greenway trails, and historic sites- a tribute to their nickname, “the City of Oaks.” Raleigh is home to Pullen Park, founded in 1887, the first public park in North Carolina and oldest operating amusement park in the United States. Pullen Park features a historic carousel and miniature train, rentable pedal boats, playgrounds, grilling and picnic areas, sports fields, and tennis courts within 5 minutes of downtown.
