Philippians 4:4-7

4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. 5 Let your gentleness be known to everyone. The Lord is near. 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

At New Day Lutheran Church, we truly embody the saying, "it takes a village!" Every single one of us plays a vital role in crafting our vibrant and welcoming worship experience each week, whether you're part of the Worship Committee, the Altar Guild, Readers or candle lighters, on the Tech Team, involved in fellowship, or a talented musician! It's a beautiful tapestry of talents and skills that come together to uplift our community. If you’re feeling that spark to get involved and share your unique gifts, don’t hesitate to reach out to Theresa! She’s ready to connect you with just the right opportunity to serve and make a difference. Together, let’s keep building our joyful family and support one another in faith and friendship!

Last week I had a conversation with Pastor Gretchen Olson who serves St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Spokane. She told me about the Peace Light, and that she was traveling to Salt Lake City to receive it from someone there, and that she would be traveling back to Spokane, making stops along the way the way and sharing the light with others. I thought it sounded like a great idea and met her at the truck stop. The light I received has been transferred to the Sanctus Candle located in the chancel of the sanctuary. We will be using the candle to light our candles on Christmas Eve. If you would like to have a candle or lamp in your home lit using this light, please let me know. You can find our more about the amazing journey of this light / flame at peacelightnorthamerica.org

OUTREACH

Can we share our Christmas Spirit?

I've been made aware of someone in the community that needs some gifts for their family for Christmas. It's a 3-generation family... a grandmother, pregnant daughter, and toddler grandson.

Christmas wishes

Grandmother: Mexican food, gift cards to Walmart, Target, etc.

Daughter: makeup & hoodies (L) due in January could use some onesies and a newborn carseat/carrier

Grandson: His own bath towel, bath toys, he loves dinosaurs & blankets, toys that make noise, clothes (top size 3, bottom size 6)

I think it would be great to have wrapped gifts, cash, or cards to church by Sunday, December 22. Thanks in advance!

Our annual Christmas Sock Drive is held during December. Thanks to our congregation in 2023, 278 pairs of socks were collected, plus some underwear and toiletries. With a $250 Thrivent grant, we were able to purchase an additional 330 pairs for a total of 608 pairs. Socks were distributed to the City of Refuge, Promise Ridge, the Haven, and Ruth House. Thank you to all who helped to make this Outreach project a success. The four shelters were very appreciative in receiving them. This year we are focusing solely on socks for women, men, and children.

Update: You are all amazing! The farm has been paid in full!

On Tuesday Dec 3, Theresa received an email from Good Gifts. On Tuesday, and only Tuesday, because it's Giving Tuesday, if we purchased the farm for $715 we would get a 2nd farm for free! They had an entity that was matching gifts up to $100K. So Theresa made a couple phone calls to see if we could make this happen! Thank you to Steve, who said, "It is not everyday you get to say you bought the farm" and we bought two! God bless all of you!

An invite from St. Luke's to their annual Advent Lessons and Carols service. Pastor Ann will be participating.

  • A Blue Christmas service is a reflective worship service that takes place on December 21, the winter solstice (the longest night of the year), to acknowledge any type of grief and to offer hope.

  • The service will include quieter music, soft lighting, and opportunities for individuals to light candles to express and acknowledge sources of their grief.

  • As always, you choose your level of participation.

5pm Service: The Family Christmas Eve service is a joint service between New Day and St. Luke's and is designed specifically for families with children. Children (and adults) are invited to participate by bringing up nativity figurines when the time in the story is right. Pastor Ann will be presiding with communion. This is a candlelight service.

7pm Service: Pastor Ann preaching and presiding using Lutheran Liturgy with communion. This is a candlelight service.

9pm Service: Pastor Ann preaching and presiding using Episcopal Liturgy with communion. This is a candlelight service.

FELLOWSHIP SIGN-UPS

Thank you to those who have signed up! You made this easy!

SETUP/CLEANUP

  • There are extra plates and cups downstairs.
  • Make coffee and set out the food, usually done after communion.
  • Leftovers of any kind are not to be left in the refrigerator.
  • The counters and serving areas need to be sanitized
  • Nothing should be left in the draining rack.
  • If you brought it, take it home or send it with someone.

BRINGING FOOD

Food can be a delightful expression of individuality and

creativity! Whether you choose to bring a simple dish that warms the heart or

an extravagant culinary creation, the important thing is that you feel inspired

to share. There are no strict rules about what must be served; instead, you

have the freedom to decide what resonates with you. The only rule is we can't

save leftovers once they hit the counter.

Your contribution, no matter how big or small, is appreciated!

RCCM NEWS

Dear Friends and family,

Happy Holiday season. I hope you are happy and healthy.

I am writing to ask for your support for Promise Ridge, a shelter for women with children experiencing a housing crisis. I have been active with Promise Ridge since 2018. In the last year, with your help, we have stabilized our finances, strengthened our program, and built our reputation as a safe, empathetic, and consistent respite for families in trauma. So far this year, we have served 19 women and 34 children. Ten women have been successful in moving into their own housing.

We are on the verge of our biggest fundraiser of the year called Avenues For Hope - an online incentive based fundraiser exclusively for Idaho non-profits which serve those experiencing homelessness. During Avenues For Hope, we have the opportunity to get matching funds, win fun challenges, and leverage our money. Last year we earned an extra $500 for having donors from at least 12 different states. We also received $2500 in matching funds, a prize of $100 for securing 10 donors on opening day, and numerous smaller prizes throughout the campaign.

Avenues for Hope begins on December 9 and runs through the end of the month. If you are interested in supporting us this year, you can access our link here: https://www.avenuesforhope.org/organizations/promiseridgeinc

I really appreciate your support for Promise Ridge. It is rewarding to be a part of a small but critical service in a community. I have learned so much and am truly humbled by the generosity of our donors and the strength and determination of our clients. Many Thanks!
