“You have not lived today until you have done something for someone who can never repay you.”
– John Bunyan
This quote speaks to the true essence of selfless giving, but it also challenges us to reflect on the subtle expectations we may carry when we give. Often, we think our generosity should lead to specific outcomes—like a person using our gift in ways we approve of, whether to better their situation or care for others. Yet, isn't that still a form of repayment? This mindset reveals how hard it can be to give freely, without an agenda or conditions.
Over the years, I’ve learned that true, pure-hearted giving requires letting go of any expectation of change. It means trusting God to work in His way and His time, which can be difficult, especially for those of us who want to "fix" things. I’ve also realized that I cannot want transformation for someone more than they want it for themselves, as that only creates disappointment and undue pressure. Instead, I strive to see them as Jesus does—valued and loved, no matter their circumstances. This holiday season, may we all view one another as His masterpieces, recognizing the potential for restoration in us all.
6 For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
– Isaiah 9:3 NLT

I hope you've enjoyed reading Irresistible Revolution with us. The next book we will be starting in January is Not Beyond Reach by Aaron Pierce. Those that know Amy and I know that we are passionate about bringing the gospel to those far from God. This book explains how to do that to a younger generation. America has undergone a radical shift. Almost half of Generation Z (born 1997 through 2012) and millennials (born 1981 through 1996) mark the “none” box when it comes to claiming religious affiliation.
How can we share Jesus with the growing number of secular people who question, ignore, or reject beliefs about truth, morality, the Bible, and God that earlier generations built their lives on? It starts with being a good friend. In Not Beyond Reach, Aaron Pierce explains how discipleship relationships start even before a friend or loved one accepts Christ. There is rich meaning and purpose in your everyday interactions with nonbelievers, no matter where they are in their faith journey! As you build trust over time, you open doors to share the Gospel. You can get your copy here on Amazon and join in reading with us.
