Celebrating 15 Years: WHE's Commitment to Environmental Advocacy and Leadership

As we commemorate Women's History Month and our 15th anniversary, Women for a Healthy Environment (WHE) reflects on our journey of empowering communities and championing environmental justice. Our commitment has always been to ensure that women, children, and vulnerable populations live in healthy environments, free from harmful exposures.

Upcoming Events:

  • Youth v. Gov Youth Virtual Panel Discussion on Climate Activism: This spring, we are excited to host a virtual panel featuring young climate activists discussing their roles in advocating for environmental policies and inspiring change.

  • Guest Speaker Andrea Vidaurre: On May 1, we will welcome Andrea Vidaurre, the 2024 Goldman Environmental Prize recipient, known for her dedication to environmental justice and community advocacy.

  • 15-Year Speaker Series – November 5: Culminating our anniversary celebrations, we are honored to host Wanjiku "Wawa" Gatheru, a Kenyan-American climate activist and Rhodes Scholar, recognized for her efforts in making the climate movement inclusive and accessible. Joining her is the Queer Black Vegan, an influential voice in the intersection of veganism, environmentalism, and LGBTQ+ advocacy.

These events highlight our commitment to sparking dialogue and driving action for environmental health and justice. We’re in this together—building a healthier, more just future for generations to come.

Meet Mia Meridith - Supporting Families Through Healthy Homes Assessments

Our team is committed to helping families create healthier living spaces. One of the newest members of our team, Mia Meridith, brings a wealth of experience in community health and self-care education.

We sat down with Mia to learn more about her journey and the vital work she’s doing as a Community Health Worker.

A Personal Connection to WHE’s Mission

Mia’s introduction to WHE was unique—before joining the team, she was a participant in the Healthy Homes Asthma Program. Through the program, she saw firsthand how home modifications could make a difference in a child’s well-being. Her son, who suffered from severe morning sneezing and frequent asthma attacks, experienced significant improvements after WHE facilitated home repairs, including carpet removal and enhanced ventilation.

“There’s so much families don’t realize about how their home environment affects health,” Mia shares. “Small changes can make a big difference.”
