Topping Off at FM Global's Norwood, MA Facility
|
On November 14th, Daniel Marr & Son (DMS) reached a key milestone with the topping off of FM Global's new Research & Development facility in Norwood. This impressive four-story, 320,000-square-foot complex features the installation of 3,500 tons of steel, made up of 4,585 individual pieces. A huge thank you to our dedicated team, our partners (Cives Steel and Shawmut Design & Construction), and FM Global for this incredible opportunity. We look forward to seeing the full vision of this project come to life! Steel Fabricator: Cives Steel; General Contractor: Shawmut Design & Construction
Aerial Lifts Division
177 Milk Street Boston, MA
| Season's Greetings from 177 Milk Street! Just before Thanksgiving, our JLG 1350SJP boom lift lent a "hand" to our longtime customer, Boston Building Wraps, who was again tasked with tying a festive red bow around this iconic office building in Downtown Boston. Scaffold Division
26 Court Street Boston, MA
| What goes up must come down. In November, Marr returned to the historic 26 Court Street building to begin dismantling the 137-foot-high scaffolding along the north side elevation. The Systems scaffold had been installed in the summer of 2023 to support exterior renovation work on the 11-story municipal office building, representing one of the largest scaffold projects in Marr's 125-year history. Rigging Division
Harvard Enterprise Research Center (ERC) Allston, MA
| |
Marr Crane & Rigging recently completed a rigging project for Harry Grodsky & Co., Inc. at the Harvard ERC, where they were responsible for hoisting and carefully positioning mechanical equipment. To do this, Marr used the on-site tower crane to safely handle large air handling units, each weighing 20,000 lbs. Because the units needed to be stacked inside the building, Marr carefully cut holes in the ceiling and ran wire rope through the cut openings, to lift the top sections into place. The bottom sections were then carefully skated underneath using dollies. This process was repeated for 20 sections, with 20 more sections to go until project completion later in December. Sheraton Boston Hotel Garage Boston, MA | Isaac Blair recently completed a shoring installation project on the underside of the Dalton Street ramp leading into the parking garage at the Sheraton Boston Hotel in Back Bay. The ramp had been compromised due to deterioration, primarily caused by salt exposure. To prevent further damage and avoid potential failure while a permanent repair solution is developed by engineers, Marr installed timber shoring during off-peak hours. This temporary measure ensures the ramp remains stable while hotel operations continue with minimal disruption. Permanent solution(s) could take a year or two to design and implement. Celebrating Partnership and Progress at Building Pathways 13th Annual Awards Night Dorchester, MA
On November 21st, Building Pathways held its 13th Annual Awards Celebration at IBEW Local 103 in Dorchester. At the event, Marr Scaffolding Company President Jeff Marr Jr. was recognized with an award for stewarding Marr’s win-win partnership with Building Pathways.
Since 2021, Marr has been a formal partner to this organization, which serves as a gateway into the building trades for historically underrepresented people. Eric Stalmon, VP of Safety and Training, has hosted a variety of training sessions specifically designed for program attendees at the Marr Center for Safety Training. Because Marr’s equipment is universally used on the jobsite, it is relevant to all attendees.
In the summer of 2023, Marr kicked off its first summer employment program exclusive to Building Pathways graduates. Operations Manager Butch Spring has acted as a point-man for this effort, which welcomes two BP graduates to Marr for summer employment in the shop/yards.
In the past year, Building Pathways graduates have been hired by MSC, DMS and IBC, respectively.
Thank you to everyone who has helped make this partnership with BP a successful one!
