March 2025

Celebrate National Nutrition Month

National Nutrition Month® is an annual campaign established in 1973 by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. During the month of March, everyone is invited to learn about making informed food choices and developing healthful eating and physical activity habits.

This year's theme is "Food Connects Us." Food is a connecting factor for many of us. Food connects us to our cultures, our families and our friends. Sharing a meal is an opportunity to learn about its preparation, who made it and where the ingredients were sourced. Here are a few easy-to-follow tips to make family meals happen more often in your home.

Health, memories, traditions, seasons and access can all impact our relationship with food. While these factors influence the foods we eat, the foods we eat also affect our health.

Public Risk Management Awareness Day

Public Risk Management Awareness Day originated in Texas and spread to other parts of the U.S. over the years. The goal is to bring a heightened level of awareness and education throughout communities by giving public risk management a platform to use as a springboard to create activities, proclamations, and publications commemorating public risk management professionals.

Ladder Safety Month

It may come as a surprise that the second leading cause of unintentional injury-related death is falls. In 2022, 46,653 people died in falls at home and at work, according to Injury Facts®

March is Ladder Safety Month. Whether working from a ladder, roof or scaffolding, it's important to plan ahead, assess the risk and use the right equipment. First, determine if working from a height is absolutely necessary or if there is another way to do the task safely.

  • Discuss the task with coworkers and determine what safety equipment is needed
  • Scan the work area for potential hazards before starting the job
  • Make sure you have level ground to set up the equipment
  • Ensure stepladders have a locking device to hold the front and back open
  • Always keep two hands and one foot, or two feet and one hand on the ladder
  • Place the ladder on a solid surface and never lean it against an unstable surface
  • A straight or extension ladder should be 1 foot away from the surface it rests on for every 4 feet of height and extend at least 3 feet over the top edge
  • Wear slip-resistant shoes and don't stand higher than the third rung from the top
  • Don't lean or reach while on a ladder, and have someone support the bottom
  • Never use old or damaged equipment; check thoroughly before use
