“Take time to replenish your spirit…as you cannot serve from an empty vessel.” – Eleanor Brown

Tidewater members Monique Farrington and Kassaundra Ewing enjoyed some social time at last year’s conference.

It’s hard to believe it's been five years since the start of the pandemic. Health care has seen many changes since then, for better or for worse. One of the positive changes is the increased focus on self-care and health care provider burnout - and our conference committee feels the same way.

Later this month, we’ll gather in Norfolk for our annual conference focused on “Practicing Priorities: Patients, Profession, and Personal Wellness.” Our speakers and programs will focus on everything from yoga through the ages and prioritizing NP well-being to leveraging AI for enhanced productivity and avoiding malpractice and litigation. We’ll also have sessions focused on primary care, women’s health, pediatrics, acute care, mental health and professional issues.

There will be lots of time for catching up with colleagues and having fun too! If you haven’t registered, there’s still time. Hope to see you in Norfolk!

Legislative update: workplace violence

Companion bills SB1260 and HB2269 are headed to the Governor’s desk. This legislation would require hospitals to establish a workplace violence incident reporting system, submit data to VDH, and make recommendations on the workplace violence system and policy.

Thanks to everyone who contacted legislators, shared stories and testified in support of these bills.

Calling all preceptors

Last month, Congresswoman Jen Kiggans authored a Newsweek opinion piece explaining how the PRECEPT Nurses Act would help address America’s growing nursing shortage. The bill’s goal is to establish a tax credit for nurse preceptors.

This tax credit would be in addition to the financial benefits Virginia already offers preceptors through the Nursing Preceptor Incentive Program.
