“When I heard the beat drop, I immediately thought, “This would sound crazy behind the SportsCenter Top 10.” The horns and hard-hitting production brought out my competitive side, taking me back to when teams tried everything to stop me. This is the track that makes you say, “Ain’t nobody f***ing with me!” explains Waller.

During a workout, host Brandon Marshall has Waller open up about surviving a life-threatening overdose, his decision to walk away from a $30 million contract and his divorce from WNBA player Kelsey Plum. “Top Play” marks Waller’s first release of 2025, following a prolific 2024 where he dropped three EPs and a collaboration with Westside Boogie, all after stepping away from the NFL last June.

Darren Waller, a former NFL star and Pro Bowl selection, is also a passionate musician and mental health advocate. Originally from Landover, MD, and raised in Atlanta, he now resides in Las Vegas. Inspired by his great-grandfather, jazz pianist Fats Waller, Darren began exploring music in 2015, the same year he was drafted into the NFL. Though music took a backseat to football, he made his debut in 2021 with Delusions of Clarity.
In 2024, he was featured on the Madden NFL ’24 soundtrack. Following his NFL retirement, Darren released three EPs: Mind Games: It’s All In Your Head, On Notice: Bag Talk, and Internal Warfare: This Too Shall Pass, along with the single “Majoring In Minor” featuring Westside Boogie. Influenced by artists like Jay-Z and Coldplay, Darren’s music reflects his journey, competitive drive, and faith. His music aims to motivate and inspire listeners, offering a therapeutic outlet through self-reflection and overcoming obstacles. His sobriety journey is central to his story, and through his music and the Darren Waller Foundation, he seeks to support those affected by addiction.
