Giving Tuesday Thank you!

Because of you, we raised critical funds on Giving Tuesday in support of your nine county parks. Thanks to the generosity shown in honor of Giving Tuesday, both throughout the month, and on Give Big Pittsburgh, we will be able to continue our work caring for the parks that care so deeply for us through improvements, conservation and restoration efforts such as stream water monitoring, tree and meadow plantings, historic shelter renovations and so much more. Thank you for being our people for the county parks!

Parks Connect

All of Us!

Marcie and Donny met on their first date in North Park after growing up near different county parks—Marcie frequenting North Park and Donny visiting South Park. They began dating during the height of the pandemic, using the parks as a safe way to get to know each other. “Fast forward a couple of years when planning for our wedding, we kept coming back to the place that connected us. We decided to get married in North Park, in the place that we love surrounded by the people we love.” Learn more about Marcie and Donny and their love for parks on our blog!

Project Updates

Barn Solar Meadow at

Deer Lakes Park Update

We are excited to share that the Barn Solar Meadow at Deer Lakes Park was seeded this fall! This new, 3.5 acre meadow, which was funded thanks to generous support by the Alcoa Foundation, was planted next to the park's solar array, near the park maintenance facility. The goal of the solar array is to provide the electricity needed to achieve Allegheny County's net zero energy goals. The new meadow will reduce stormwater runoff flows into Baileys Run Creek, provide critical pollinator habitat, and reduce the need to mow while enhancing the park's beauty. We would like to thank Allegheny County and the Alcoa Foundation for their support on this project!

Events

Park 'til Dark &

Pour at the Park Recap

Park ’til Dark and Pour at the Park in North Park, presented by Peoples Natural Gas, took place on Saturday, October 12 and both were a ton of fun! The main goals of these events are to raise awareness for our work, to connect and interact with park users and to fundraise for our organization. Between the two events we interacted with over 330 people and grossed $24,658, which will all be poured directly back into your nine Allegheny County Parks with our ongoing work. Whether you sponsored the events, bought a ticket to Pour at the Park, donated to Park ’til Dark, attended an activity or conversed with a staff member, we thank you for your attendance and support! If you missed all or part of the event then check out the recap on our blog!

Additionally, we are now happy to share that our Zero Waste efforts at Pour at the Park, with the assistance of Pennsylvania Resources Council, yielded a diversion rate of 83.1%! That means that without our Zero Waste services, 92.2 pounds of compost, recycling and food resources would have been sent to a landfill. While our goal is to get the diversion rate above 90%, we are thrilled with the positive impact we had in North Park this year.

If you have feedback on our events, please email Jess to let us know!

Ways to Support

Support Your Parks with a Year-End Contribution!

December is the last month to make

a tax-deductible donation to support our work in 2024.

This season, consider investing in the health of our local park ecosystems, the protection of species and the preservation of park biodiversity. Your support can empower initiatives that combat deforestation, promote sustainable practices, and advance both the knowledge of our parks and the connections between them.

We hope that you will put the Parks Foundation at the top of your priority list when choosing what charities to support with your year-end contribution.
