CONSTRUCTION UPDATE
Dear Iceland Believer,
We hope you have had a great Thanksgiving and start to the wonderful holiday season, enjoying time with friends and family.
Our expectation of skating and celebrating with you at Iceland by the winter holidays has unfortunately been disrupted. The City of Sacramento has reviewed our construction plans and determined that the new roof at Iceland requires American Ice Company (next door) to upgrade their fire resistance.
This is far from the exciting reopening envisioned for 2024. It's definitely disappointing to add more tasks to the project, but fire safety is always top priority. The increase in scope has pushed construction commencement into next year.
We are moving forward in two steps. The first step, the weather canopy, will cover Iceland with the permanent roof. It will keep the weather off the ice so Iceland can be enjoyed rain or shine! This will allow us to open by Fall of 2025.
The second step is completing the Iceland interior we've always hoped for – new windows, sound system, show lighting, and finally new bathrooms!
The plans for Iceland and American Ice need to go back to the city together. We are hurrying to finish them! We will share an update as soon as we have one. Thank you for your patience during this complicated and labor-intensive process.
Fundraising focus:
Next goal, bathrooms! The cost of permanent bathrooms is not covered by the grant from the city. Our next fundraising focus is raising $250,000 to provide permanent, accessible restrooms. Help us say toodeloo to temporary toilets!
Giving Tuesday is tomorrow!
This global giving day for nonprofits is this Tuesday! One-time, recurring, fundraising event donors (Big Day of Giving, Golf Tournament), and Legacy block purchases keep moving us towards reopening!
