The Donkey
By G.K. Chesterton 1874-1936
When fishes flew and forests walked
And figs grew upon thorn,
Some moment when the moon was blood
Then surely I was born.
With monstrous head and sickening cry
And ears like errant wings,
The devil's walking parody
On all four-footed things.
| |
The tattered outlaw of the earth,
Of ancient crooked will;
Starve, scourge, deride me: I am dumb,
I keep my secret still.
Fools! For I also had my hour;
One far fierce hour and sweet:
There was a shout about my ears,
And palms before my feet.

We pray for For Sean our Presiding Bishop, and for Shannon, Rob and Thomas, bishops of Vermont, New
Hampshire and Maine; and for all bishops and other ministers.
For the special needs and concerns of this congregation, especially: for Theo, Nancy H., Elizabeth, Bill, Peter, Duncan, Judy, M. Davies, Marcia, David, Jennifer, and St. Simon’s Church, Mary Lou, Dora, Karen, David, Sofia, and the family of Rick Oden.
We pray for the end of war around the world, especially in Ukraine, Sudan, Yemen, and renewed fighting in Israel and Gaza; and the most vulnerable in the conflicts, the children and the elderly. We pray for our friends at the Jewish Community Center of Greater Stowe and Stowe Community Church. We pray for all those who have lost jobs, finances, and are concerned about the future.
We ask your thanksgiving for Cathedral Church of St. Paul, Burlington, the St. John’s Pastoral Care Team, and our community partner, Lamoille Community Food Share.
