Happenings at Healy

Senior Trip heads East

The Class of 2025 headed east for the annual Pierz Healy High School senior trip to Washington D.C. and NYC this week. Here's just a snippet from our math teacher and chaperone Ms. Andres (note: they have 5 more days after this)!

Day 1:

Miles total: 10 miles walked!

We left Pierz at 3:30am with lots of energy, ready for our next six days. We successfully got everyone through security and on the plane headed for our nation's Capitol. We landed in DC at 11 and hit the ground running. Our first stop was the White House. Then we headed to lunch before our time at the Smithsonians. We divided our Smithsonian time between the American History Museum and the Natural History Museum ( and we snuck in some time in the sunshine ). After that we visited the Washington Memorial, the World War II Memorial, the Reflecting Pool, the Lincoln Memorial, and the Korean War Memorial. Finally it was time for supper at Hard Rock Cafe. Our final stops of the night were the Vietnam Memorials and the Einstein Statue. It was a whirlwind of a day but we had so much fun and can’t wait for our adventure tomorrow! We hope you enjoy some of our pictures from the day.

They also were fortunate to time their NYC lag so that they got to take the subway to see the Nets vs. Timberwolves game where they had their name in lights!

Distracted Driving: A Dire Reminder

Students in grades 10-12 spent time with Morrison County Sheriff's Department Chaplain Gregg Valentine last week as he talked with them and showed them the consequences of distracted driving. As they watched the movie Eight Seconds: One Fatal Distraction - it became clear that any time their eyes were off the road is a time when unexpected tragedy can strike. Texting or talking on phones, eating, applying makeup, finding that playlist you 'need to listen to now' on Spotify, turning around to talk to friends, and so many more micro-decision can have dire consequences for the rest of our young driver's lives. Talk to them about it their choices and talk often!

Special Visitor at 'Clay Day'

Each spring, sixth graders work with the art teacher and studio at the high school to create clay sculptures and then glaze them for the spring showcase. This would have been the first year in a LONG time that newly retired 6th grade teacher Ms. Faye Sandy wasn't enjoying this tradition. But she just couldn't stay away!

Bus Buddies Brings All Grades Together

It's Bus Buddies day at Pioneer! Twice a year, Pioneer Elementary students get to gather with their bus driver, bus paras, and fellow bus riding friends to talk about bus safety, respect and conduct on the bus, and play team-building games together. Students from kindergarten to sixth grade come together to remind each other that bus safety is everyone's responsibility.

Community Ed FAQs

When can I sign up for the classroom portion of drivers ed?

The class schedule will be published in April when the instructors confirm their schedules. We haven't capped these classes in the past so no need to worry about registering on day 1.

Students must be 14 years or older. An in-person class will be offered in June in addition to the online class that is starting this spring.

When can I sign up for behind the wheel?

We are booked through May and summer sessions will be available in April. These will fill quickly so watch here or on Community Education's facebook page for the opening date. Students must have their practice hours completed prior to driving with the instructor and should try to schedule their hours a few weeks before their road test.

When will summer rec offerings be published?

We are working to confirm schedules with coaches and instructors now so you can expect registration to open by the end of April.
