CLUB ANNOUNCEMENTS

All age classes are officially in full swing, and the 13U Girls kick off this weekend! We hope this season has already brought plenty of fun, excitement, growth, and new friendships. Whether you're competing in 12U or 18U, it’s not just about the wins—it’s about pushing yourself, building team spirit, and striving for continuous improvement. The second half of the season is the perfect time to elevate your game, push harder, and showcase all the growth you’ve made so far.

A few highlights from the last couple of weeks include the fun trend of “getting clipped.” Let’s keep this initiative full of positivity and uplifting comments, ensuring a fun and supportive environment for all our athletes, coaches, parents, and spectators! And don’t forget the exciting 12U Skillz Contest—we hope everyone had a chance to show off their skills!

Let’s keep the energy high, have fun, and finish the season with unforgettable moments! Before you know it, it will be time for provincials.

WOW 2025

Volleyball Alberta proudly presents the 4th Annual Women in Officiating Weekend (WOW), Friday, March 21 through Sunday, March 23, 2025, at the Saville Community Sports Centre in Edmonton, AB.

This exclusive event is designed for and dedicated to supporting and empowering women in officiating. It aligns with our commitment to fostering growth, inclusivity, and strength within the Volleyball Alberta community.

The weekend will feature an inspiring speaker panel on Friday night, with notable panelists:

• Erminia Russo Thorpe, BPE OLY

• Erin Brennan, Certified Mental Performance Coach

• Emily Clarke, CFL Official

These incredible women will share their experiences and insights to inspire and motivate attendees.

The weekend will also include officiating at the 15U and 18U girls' VA Premier matches. During this WOW event, referees will stand out in their WOW shirts instead of the traditional VC uniform polo. Some matches may include both an up and down referee, along with additional Supervisors to provide feedback and mentorship. This is a fantastic opportunity to highlight our talented referees while supporting their growth and development.

We look forward to supporting the women and girls who are shaping the future of officiating in Alberta!

Sportsmanship Award

Volleyball Alberta is excited to continue recognizing outstanding sportsmanship at our events! Throughout Provincials, if you see a referee, athlete, coach, team staff, or fan from another team fostering a positive environment—whether through respect, kindness, honesty, or integrity—nominate them!

🌟 After each Provincials weekend, one winner will be randomly drawn from the nominees to receive a VA prize package.

Let’s celebrate great sportsmanship together!

The Sportsmanship Award nomination form will open on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at 8:00 AM.

All-Star Awards

During Provincials, the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams in each division of the 15U–18U age classes will have the opportunity to recognize their standout athletes with an All-Star Award. Good luck to all teams! Nomination forms will be distributed on-site by the VA Venue Coordinator.

Mikasa Achievement Awards

Every year, countless athletes, coaches, referees, and volunteers make a lasting impact on volleyball in Alberta—but too often, they go unrecognized because no one submits a nomination. Don’t let their contributions go unnoticed!

As Provincials approach, start thinking about who could be nominated for a Mikasa Achievement Award. Award recipients will be honoured at the Hall of Fame & Annual Awards Banquet on June 21, 2025.

Who can be nominated? Athletes, coaches, referees, and volunteers from both the indoor club and beach seasons.

📅 When to submit? Nominations should be submitted soon after Provincials to ensure they are considered by the selection committee. 🔗 More details: Mikasa Achievement Awards page
