December 2024

2024 Production Reports are Available!

The online Production Portal is now available to production report recipients for them to access their annual reports. The online access gives report recipients the ability to fill out their report(s) online and send it directly to the district. It also allows recipients the option to download the blank production report(s) to pdf files, fill out and send by email or mail just as they have always done.

To access the portal recipients must have their cell phone number on file with the district. If your number has changed or if you would like a new report recipient to access your reports, contact the district and we can make that change for you.

As always, if there are any questions or if you need assistance with your reports, do not hesitate to reach out to us at productionreporting@northplainsgcd.org or call the office at 806-935-6401.

VFD Checkouts in Cooperation the USDA

In cooperation with the USDA(NRCS), North Plains GCD performs VFD (variable frequency drive) checkouts. These VFD’s are installed on electrically driven water wells to improve efficiency and conservation. VFD’s are used to control electricity output and can be adjusted based on water needs. Additionally, VFD’s provide cost savings by reducing energy consumption and maintenance costs, longer equipment life, and equipment reliability. The NRCS offers producers cost sharing funds through the EQIP (Environmental Quality Incentives Program). The district agreed to provide testing equipment pre and post VFD to ensure functionality of the VFD. Testing equipment includes an ultrasonic flow meter to record water discharge from the well, and an energy logger to record changes in electrical output.

Returning of Wells Back into Service

Recent Land Purchase or Leasing

The district field staff have been inspecting all wells within the District that have not been inspected in the past 5 years. Based on these inspections several old wells that were found previously classified as capped and/or abandoned have been brought back into service either as an irrigation well or converted over to a livestock/domestic well on the property.

If you have recently purchased, leased, or inherited farmland where old capped irrigation and/or livestock/domestic wells are located on the property you should visit the district's interactive map to check current status and the original permitted size or classification of each well on the property.

Before bringing a well back into service, you are required to notify the district, so the classification of the well(s) can be updated; especially if the well is an irrigation well, for annual production reporting requirements. This reclassification process does not have to happen immediately in order for the old well(s) to be inspected, reworked, and checked out if they are going to be cost effective for use. The district can be notified once a satisfactory operational test of the well(s) is complete; then the proper documentation can be filled out based on how the well(s) should be reclassified. Reclassification documents amend the original permit to its new classification, and will fall under the current district rules for groundwater producing.

If you have any questions or concerns you can always contact our office at (806) 935-6401 and ask for Permitting or Compliance Coordinators to assist you with your specific situation or classification documentation process.
