The Metropolitan Council, operator of the regional wastewater collection and treatment system, responded Friday morning, March 28, to a wastewater spill in Minneapolis, at the intersection of 28th Street W. and Dean Court. Crews were able to stop the spill flow. Wastewater reached the west side of Cedar Lake South Beach through the storm water system. The spill was caused by the theft of infrastructure at the spill site.
Crews completed cleanup and repair efforts Friday, March 28. Sewer service was not interrupted. Water quality crews collected samples at five testing sites within Cedar Lake on Friday, March 28, and Saturday, March 29, to measure for potential health and environmental concerns. Met Council scientists saw significant reductions in bacteria from Friday into Saturday. Bacteria results remain elevated just west of Cedar Lake South Beach. Water Quality crews will return on Monday, March 31, for another round of sampling.
