Year End Message from WFRC's Executive Director

Dear colleagues, partners, and friends of WFRC,

As the year comes to a close, we’re reflecting on what is sometimes called the “Utah way” of collaborating together, planning for the future, and caring for our communities. This doesn’t happen automatically; it takes intentional and sometimes challenging work to find common ground as we all seek to maintain and even enhance the quality of life in our region and state, now and for generations to come.

We’re honored to do this work with you. We are deeply grateful to our WFRC Council and committee members and the elected officials in our region for their dedication and vision; we admire the talented city and county staff who work every day serving their communities; we appreciate our partners at UDOT, UTA, MAG, ULCT, and UAC; we value the business and community leaders who take time out of their busy lives to participate in charting the course for Utah’s future.

Whether it’s providing regional planning, project funding, analysis and data, technical assistance, or the myriad other ways we support our communities, we hope you see WFRC as your partner in advancing a shared long-term vision for transportation, land use, and economic opportunity, embodied in the Wasatch Choice Vision

As we close out the year, we wish you a wonderful holiday season and look forward to another year of working with you all!

Happy holidays,

Andrew Gruber

WFRC Executive Director

Join the conversation about the future of our region!

Elected officials, city representatives, and WFRC staff gather around the table during the Southeast Salt Lake County Fall Wasatch Choice Vision Workshop, one of eight workshops around the region with local representatives.

Utah is a dynamic place with rapid growth and change. WFRC and its partners periodically update the Wasatch Choice Vision to ensure we all are charting a great path forward. What are the optimal future uses of land in our communities, such as city and town “centers” of development, parks and public spaces, housing options, and job creation? What are the greatest needs for improving roadways, public transit, and trails and bikeways? There is no one-size-fits-all; each community and even neighborhood has its own character and needs. We invite you to explore the Vision and provide thoughts on future needs and priorities.

We encourage you to take a moment to look at the map and provide a comment or two on needs and aspirations as it pertains to transportation and growth.

This information will be considered in conjunction with input we’ve already received from elected officials, staff, and partners.

The 2025 General Legislative Session is fast approaching! WFRC’s team — including our Government Affairs Manager, Miranda Jones Cox, our Executive Director, Andrew Gruber, and other members of our staff as well as our members and partners — spend much of the 45 days of session up on Utah’s Capitol Hill engaging with our State Legislators and other stakeholders to provide subject matter expertise related to issues of transportation, land use, housing, and air quality.

During the legislative session, Miranda provides up-to-date and timely information back to our communities, detailing information about legislation and appropriations that relate to the Wasatch Choice Vision and Utah’s Unified Transportation Plan. You can expect an email update at least weekly from Miranda during the session and monthly thereafter. Additionally, Miranda shares federal highlights including happenings in Congress and funding opportunities.
