In response to nearly 3,000 Americans dying on 9/11, the federal government reorganized and spent trillions of dollars in an (often misguided) effort to make us safer. In contrast, an even larger number die every week from drugs and alcohol, and we continue not to provide effective treatment to most of those in need. This is a staggering national failure.

A project of CALC
This project seeks to define how militarism,
racism and climate crisis are interconnected.
The project will document how national security is not rooted in militarism but rather
in the meeting of human needs such as health, education, good jobs,
good infrastructure and a livable climate.

Planet Versus Pentagon
is now sponsoring weekly vigils calling for an immediate ceasefire in Palestine and Israel.
Please join us for a vigil calling for diplomacy and an immediate ceasefire in Palestine and Israel.
Old Federal Building
corner of 7th & Pearl, Eugene
Some signs will be provided. Bring your own if you can.
| |
We abhor all violence. We are heartbroken by the killing and maiming of people in the Middle East, whether they are Palestinian, Israeli, or citizens of any other country, particularly innocent children, people with disabilities and the elderly.
We call for an immediate ceasefire and a stop to the killing or injuring or any type of violence to anyone. We demand sending humanitarian aid to the civilians affected, and demand members of Congress not send more military aid. Diplomacy not weapons is needed in the Middle East. Only the weapons manufacturers and oil industry benefit from war. The Military Industrial Congressional Complex has the biggest carbon footprint in the world.

The Northwest Forest Plan (NWFP), first landscape scale conservation plan of its kind in the world, is under review by the US Forest Service. They are accepting public comments through March 17th.
The three alternative proposals in their Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) are poised to double or triple logging on our public lands. The “trade off” is that their proposals will now include long overdue Tribal Knowledge and "good fire." This is a bad deal!

After last year’s success with the COAL Act, our Divest Oregon Coalition worked with chief sponsor Senator Golden and others to support the 2025 Pause Act. This act codifies a portion of the Treasurer’s Net Zero Plan by pausing for five years the state’s PERS private equity investments primarily in fossil fuels, which are not transparent, illiquid & risky. www.divestoregon.org/The-Pause-Act--2025
SJR28 - Oregon Coalition for an Environmental Rights Amendment (OCERA) -- This comprehensive environmental bill will put the right to a Healthy Environment into our state constitution and will help protect other programs like our Climate Protection Plan. OCERA’s Legal team will be hosting a panel discussion at the 2025 Public Interest Environmental Law Conference being held at the University of Oregon February 28th through March 2nd. Plan to attend and get involved. www.pielc.org (see panel below for PIELC -ed) www.OCERAunited.org

Say No to "Blue and Gold"
Old-Growth Logging Project!
On March 25th in Roseburg, join community members and advocates across the region for a rally in protest of the Bureau of Land Management’s auction of the critically important old-growth forest threatened by the Blue and Gold project

From Cascadia Wildlands:
Despite the dual worsening climate and biodiversity crises, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is pushing forward with a controversial plan to log over a thousand of acres of pristine, resilient old-growth forest habitat on public lands in Oregon’s Coast Range.
The Blue and Gold logging project, located west of Yoncalla in the Umpqua River watershed, has some of the last remaining unlogged, carbon-storing older forests in the region. The agency plans to aggressively log and build roads in old-growth habitat essential to imperiled species including the northern spotted owl and marbled murrelet. The main justification for the Blue and Gold project is, unsurprisingly, to meet timber production targets.

The Minoru Yasui Legacy Project (MYLP) will host its
annual Minoru Yasui Day event, honoring Minoru Yasui’s
legacy and Oregon’s official state designation of
March 28th as Minoru Yasui Day.
Saturday April 5 mm 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.
University of Oregon NE Portland Campus
Campus Center Room #212
2800 NE Liberty Street, Portland
| |
Held in collaboration with the Japanese American Museum of Oregon, this event honors the day on March 28, 1942, when Yasui courageously violated the unconstitutional military curfew that led to the forced removal and imprisonment of over 110,000 persons of Japanese ancestry during World War II.
MYLP continues its mission to defend civil rights and advance social justice, honoring the past, shaping the future, and fueling change through our commitment to justice, equity, and civil rights, inspired by Minoru Yasui's life and legacy.
This year’s Minoru Yasui Day holds profound significance as we mark the 10th anniversary of Minoru Yasui’s Presidential Medal of Freedom, posthumously awarded by President Obama on November 24, 2015. Yasui is the only Oregonian to have received this award.
As the nation’s highest civilian honor, this recognition affirmed Yasui’s lifelong fight for justice and unwavering dedication to civil rights. In honor of this milestone, MYLP will announce the 2025 Minoru Yasui Student Contest winners at the event and introduce the inaugural Minoru Yasui Activism Awards, recognizing 10 outstanding organizations that continue his legacy by advocating for marginalized communities, defending civil rights, and promoting justice.
This year’s awardees include the Japanese American Museum of Oregon, Oregon Historical Society, Densho, Portland Japanese American Citizens League, Tsuru for Solidarity, Japanese Ancestral Society, American Civil Liberties Union of Oregon, Asian Pacific American Network of Oregon, Perkins Coie LLP, and Western States Center.

Turning Tides Concerts
presents
Yagody
Original folk music inspired by traditional songs in the different regions of Ukraine
Saturday, April 12 mm 7:30PM
Unity of the Valley m 3912 Dillard Rd, Eugene
Tickets $25 @ https://turningtidesmusic.ticketspice.com/yagody-in-concert
Each moment in a person's life has its own song - says Zoryana Dybovska, who founded Yagody in 2016 in the West Ukrainian city of Lviv, together with students from the local theater faculty. The four traveled through different regions of Ukraine to explore the musical traditions of the people there. With this huge collection of songs about love and life, Yagody create their own exciting sound mix, supported by musicians on drums, guitar, accordion or the drymba, a mouth harp of the Hutsul people from the Carpathians.
Since Yagody are active in the world of theater, they realize their musical stage show according to dramaturgical principles, a concert is like a performance in one act.
Yagody's repertoire consists of poetic songs from Ukraine and some regions around. The musicians build a very diverse and energetic world of melodies, rhythms and themes, which they blend uniquely. A concert with Yagody is a ritual. It is about listening to the inner self. And to the mythical sound of our ancestors, like the breath of the wind in the field.

Why Should I Report?
While bias incidents and crimes sometimes target specific individuals, they often violate an entire group or community’s sense of safety and belonging.
Graffiti on the wall, fliers, anonymous emails, and language meant to harass individuals convey intolerance that impacts all of us. We want Oregon to be welcoming and inclusive.
You can report to us online any time: https://justice.oregon.gov/crimereporting/hatecrime
| | | |
Have you experienced or witnessed a hate crime or a bias incident?
A hate crime is a crime motivated in part or whole by bias against another person’s actual or perceived protected class–their race, color, disability, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, or gender identity. Examples include racist graffiti, stealing Pride flags, threats using slur words, assaulting someone based on their identity.
A bias incident is a non-criminal hostile expression motivated in part or whole by another person’s actual or perceived protected class, again meaning their race, color, disability, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, or gender identity. Examples include hate speech; using a racial, ethnic, or other slurs; displaying hateful symbols or flags; creating racist images/drawings; mocking someone with a disability; or telling or sharing offensive “jokes” about someone’s identity.
